Untappd is very different. PTF has up-to-date tap lists for the major craft beer bars in Philly, and allows you to divide by brewery and by neighborhood.

So if anyone was sitting on a Triple Vanilla I highly recommend you drink it ASAP. Had one tonight and it is a shell of its former self. The smoothness of the vanilla is all but gone and the booze is in the forefront. I will admit the more I drank it the easier it got to drink but that may have been the 10% taking over.

You can do that with Untappd (although I'm not sure what you mean by "neighborhood" - you can enter any city or zip code and it will tell you all the locations within the specified distance). And I have found it to be more up to date than PTF for most venues.

Really? Where's that feature? I thought it was only for venues that were "verified?" I just looked up Monk's and I don't see a tap list.

It looks like Monk's is not verified on Untappd (WTF???), but if you look for Tired Hands (the brewery, not venue) and go to "Find it", it does show up if you put in a Philly zip code. But unfortunately since it's not verified it can only go off of the recent check-ins. I have no idea why a place like Monk's wouldn't be verified on Untappd, but then again knowing Monk's I guess I'm not that surprised. So seems in some cases PTF might be the better bet. But if you're not in Philly Untappd is a nice option.

I’m pretty sure the Milkshakes are just troll beers at this point. Avoid 10/10

Edit: Just realized they actually started as a troll beer, got a ton of people into beer who never would have been, and now have come full troll circle. Beer is wonderful...

There aren't very many breweries that are "verified" as far as I can tell. I know that certain beers do show up in the zip, but it's a far, far less complete list than PTF and it doesn't have the ability to... you know... look at the tap lists of many bars like PTF does. Nothing against Untappd because I use it for other purposes, I just don't think they're comparable.

I do agree with op though, every city should have a __TF. Not every city is Philly though.

Given that the verification process for Untappd is a paid service, I can't imagine Monk's, which already has a huge craft beer following and regularly updates their website's draft list would find business value in it. I would guess that is a similar reason why certain bars/breweries go with other services (beermenus, manual updates, etc.) or none at all. I don't know for certain but I wouldn't be surprised if PTF offers their services at a more competitive rate than untappd and given the number of other bars in the area that use it, it makes more sense for a bar, like Monk's, to spend less and be on a site with more localized traffic.

Ah okay, I didn't realize Untappd charged a fee to be verified. I guess I'm just lucky in that most of the good bars/breweries in my area are verified (I'm not in Philly). Do you know what they charge? I have wondered where their revenue comes from.

Monk's already pays PhillyTapFinder to be featured on the site, so they've likely deemed that a better use of their marketing bucks than Untappd. Which makes sense because PTF is so, so much better and more up-to-date than any other similar service. Like I'm assuming that Beermenus was a joke.

Not sure what the charge to become verified is. Know they are also generating revenue through different ads on the site (unique badges, promotions for events following check-ins, etc.).

I personally don't find PTF to be much better considering it isn't that intuitive of a platform (no geo-location, for example). While beermenus is a joke around this area, I've been to other cities where it is used exclusively - I think all the services can work as long as there is some widespread adoption. Ultimately, like all of these apps, PTF only works well when the locations themselves are actively sharing the taplists.

Back to TH, a decent amount of cans left over from last night. I could use some fresh AC so glad to see I can swing by and get some. Should I bring up the "why isn't AC in the GS yet?" again? Nah.

Untappd charges 595$ a year if I am not mistaken.

I have 3 I'll have to drink this weekend. I've been trying to trade them for some Treehouse stuff but no one is biting.

Great beer, just more of a novelty item imo. 10% beer is not something I'd like to be drinking regularly in this summer heat

Al's of Hampden had Tired Hands on tap and available for growlers fills. Got a crowler of rustic pentagram, anybody try? They also just threw Extra Extra Knuckle on tap. May get a few crowlers of that, absolutely love that beer

I know TH likes bottling their saisons but I would love love love if they started doing session sours in cans
