Yes, breweries are in business to make money and if they can hype their products they will make more money.

I am guessing that some beer consumers have a differing perspective on craft breweries vs. the big, bad guys (BMC breweries); they fully expect the BMC folks to take all means necessary to sell their beers but they think (or maybe hope is a better word?) that the craft breweries would take a differing approach. Some people view their craft breweries as being part of a beer community vs. just a business entity out to maximize profits by any means possible. Those sorts of folks probably would prefer that craft breweries not jump on the “hype train”.

I will confess that I am personally conflicted here. I have been ‘around the block’ enough times to recognize that businesses prioritize making money (profit) but in my perfect world breweries like Tired Hands would make it a priority to be a member of the beer community. The two goals of making money and being a part of the beer community are not necessarily mutually exclusive but the specific strategies used to maximize profits can create a conflict situation.

In my perfect world it would be just as @jmdrpi posted: “Beer is for drinking, and the social aspect of some friends gathered around pints.”

In my personal opinion, the “hype train” and requiring folks to wait in line for hours to purchase your beer is not completely consistent with this principle.

    Cheers!

I know one of them was Adam Goodwin who is opening a fermentaria (is that even a word?) in Charleston, SC. He was also with Trillium.

Tired Hands seems to definitely be doing their best to maximize profit. Both by selling the packaged beer themselves (not distribution), and by playing into the "scarcity" game by constantly releasing "new" beers that traders feel they "need". Higher demand>increased prices>more profit.

But their methods only work because enough customers are willing to commit their time, money, and blind faith (despite QC issues). I'm not one of them, but they found a niche market to exploit and they are doing it.

Shhhh!!! I'm scouring social media for new clues as to what new beers I need so I can commit my time, money and blind faith into acquiring them!

Good lord things are slow at work right now.

Prediction: an IPA that's brewed with Pale Malt and Oats, hopped with Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra, and Galaxy. But totally different than the last 50 IPAs they brewed with those same ingredients

Throw in the words dank, juicy, crushable, intense, hyper fresh, etc.

Line is miniscule compared to any other line since summer. There will be more than enough to go around.

Yup, Pineal is pretty close to that description (except for the Simcoe part):

    “Tired Hands Pineal IPA

Tired Hands Pineal IPA Fruity IPA brewed with a portion of oats for a creamy texture. Flavors of melon, blueberry, tangerine, light pine, and tropical fruit. Dry finish with moderately high hop bitterness. Hops: Amarillo, Simcoe.”

Ironically I discussed Pineal in this week’s NBS thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-sunday-week-615.470459/#post-5144196

    Cheers!
