What is mosaic powder anyway? Is that like hop keef or sweepings from the floor of the pelletizing factory?

It's what all the cool kids are using now, basically they are able to condense the oils into their own powder like substance without any of the green matter of the cone.

Lupulin powder – a purified concentration of the resin compounds and aromatic oils in whole hop flowers – is being test-marketed by Yakima-based YCH Hops (Yakima Chief-Hopunion).... YCH uses a proprietary cryogenic process to separate the powder from the leafy part of the hop cone. That’s also being sold separately as debittered hop leaf, to provide pure aroma along the lines of European noble hops.

But I don't see anything on YCH's website, so must not have fully rolled out yet

BJCP gives 7.5% as the dividing line for IPAs, which seems to be roughly the standard most breweries use in naming. But whatever the dividing line, the brewery still publishes the actual % ABV for consumers.

And you can have a 7% DIPA and 7.6% IPA. It's all just marketing. Just drink the beer and don't get caught up in it.

I'm not, I don't have any qualms with what is going on haha. I'm just pointing out that there are guidelines for things like that but not for the other issue we were talking about.

Also we are all on a beer thread on BeerAdvocate debating beer techniques from a brewery that we all enjoy. I think we are way past the just drink it phase.

Not to be a dick but I don't consider the ramblings about the usage of DDH as it pertains here to be critical thinking.

You're facts are all pretty accurate. I think the question is why start the crusade here with this brewery over something so pedestrian? Dare I say, who cares?

I'm simply saying some of us are looking at the last page and half of brewing process like, dude can we just talk about how good the beer is?

Real complicated shit. Involves hop fairies and all sorts of wizardry. You wouldn't get it. Far exceeds any concept being tossed around in here.

I was able to get one, but have not cracked it yet. Reviews on Untappd are outstanding, it seems.

Got a growler of Science Experiment V last night, as it seems to be the best IPA on tap at the moment. Definitely cannot taste any oysters, which is good IMO, but its fairly solid.

I had it at the Fermentaria and I don't know, it just tasted weird to me, which I guess makes sense since that's what it said in the description.

How I have been explained the whole IPA/DIPA debate is that a DIPA should be a more intense version of the single IPA version. Imperial just means it is over 7% (might be off on this number but approx). So a DIPA should not exist without a single IPA version. An IPA can be imperial if over 7% and a DIPA is almost always imperial, but being imperial doesn't mean it is a DIPA. Same logic applies to those occasional triple IPAs out there.

That being said. The same brewer that explained this to me also told me it's pretty much semantics and marketing/branding has taken over. People seem to gravitate to DIPA over the imperial label. So there are plenty of DIPAs out there without their single versions.

Perhaps same logic for DDH? There should be a version that is dryhopped and DDH is the intensified "doubled" version. But that's total speculation. Regardless if true or not, I like intensely hopped beers and don't care how they label them.

    Cheers.

Definitely better than having double dry heaves in the morning!
