Employee labor and storing things like kegs are direct costs associated with running a brewery. Canning requires a miniscule amount of human labor per unit of beer sold compared to filling a growler, and cans usually don't require extended storage because they sell out right away where 20 barrels (or even 6) of draft beer is going to need to sit somewhere for a while. This of course is going to be reflected in the price. 20% is a totally reasonable overhead on the labor for filling a growler over canning.

If you're going to complain about pricing, at least have an understanding of how things work.

Is it just me or did the polenta in Science Experiment 6 start to taste like movie theater popcorn after the beer warmed a little bit? Very interesting, but I couldn't imagine drinking more than 4-6oz of that stuff at a time.

Below for reference was my post on this topic.

In that post I pointed out that Tired Hands realized an additional 20% revenue by selling Creamsicle by the growler (with the assumption that they would have priced this beer at $25 per four-pack if packaged). I was simply making a statement of fact; no complaints in that message.

    Cheers!

    "32oz Orange Creamsicle is still $18. $30 for 64oz."

And from a revenue perspective this 'experiment' went extremely well for Tired Hands. They would have received something like $25 for four-packs of Creamsicle (64 ounces total) but instead received $30 for a 64 ounce growler of Creamsicle. That is an additional revenue of 20%. If your boss called you into his office and told you they were going to give you a 20% raise in your pay how would you feel?”

I really appreciate your response on this. I agree, I'm happy to spend a few extra dollars to support local businesses. I'll have to keep my eyes open for when this becomes available next summer.

Any idea how many spots they made available?

I could definitely see that yes. I had an 8oz but didn't let it warm much if you know what I mean haha.

I could only be looking at the top sheet of the sign in list when I visit but it's probably around 40 or so? I'll ask next Monday.

You seem to perceiving excess diacetyl in that beer.

    Cheers!

I do definitely think there was some diacetyl going on in the taste. The polenta just happened to cover it up in a cheeky pop-corn way. Considering this was essentially a cornmeal IPA, this may be the only time when diacetyl actually enhanced(?) the base flavoring.

    That is possible I suppose?

Generally speaking the presence of diacetyl in beer is considered a technical brewing flaw. I once obtained a four-pack of HopHands that had high levels of diacetyl. Those beers were drain pours.:slight_frown:

    Cheers!

Not trying to defend a sloppily executed beer but I perceived the polenta addition as simply a unique finish to the beer, not necessarily a flaw and I didn't get the pop corn taste but I also didn't let it warm much.

I went to the release on Sunday and a guy in line mentioned selling beer online through a website. First, ridiculous in my opinion, but isn't it also illegal to resell beer from these breweries?

"from these breweries"? it's illegal to sell alcohol if you don't have a license to do so, doesn't matter who's alcohol so far as i'm aware

also.... people break the law... i hope that doesn't come as a surprise to you mate

Hey all. I'm a New Yorker looking to make my first trip to Tired Hands. Are the releases typically still Wed and Thursday? Are the lines ridiculous that I'd have to line up hours before to get a release? I"m guessing that's the case with any of the milkshake releases. Thank you for any info you can provide!

I hope this is their new plan cause it is awesome. Non hyped beers during the week and then the trade/hype/line beers another day. Two weeks in a row now, please keep doing this Tired Hands.
