Yes, I'm not referring to the ones with Restaurant Licences, which in my area of SEPA is limited to Wegmans, Whole Foods, and one Weis. But there are dozens of other grocery stores that don't.
But I'm not sure it would make too much difference for those of us shopping for craft beer. Likely most of the grocery stores would only dedicate a small section for beer filled with mostly AAL. So it might end up that the same grocery stores that provide large craft beer selections are the ones that have already take the effort to dedicate a space for it.

True. But since they don't package their beer, chances are none of the people reviewing Hidden River beers are doing so with the ulterior motive of driving up the "trade value". Something that can't be said for all of those Tired Hands ratings. The traders offering the TH beers want to inflate the ratings. And those receiving don't want to feel like suckers, so there is probably some placebo effect on the other end.

The beer trading "game" is ridiculous and a detriment to the craft beer scene. How much of the Tired Hands beer is actually being drank by the purchasers? about 50% of their Instagram "comments" are just trade offers.

Also it also depends on if there are alcoholic beverage licenses available in the area where a grocery store is located. My local GIANT only got their license from buying it off of a local taco place.

I wonder myself as I've felt that maybe half of the Tired Hands beers I've had are just "okay". Also are the IPAs that Tired Hands make any different from the IPAs in the New England area? Are people just shipping similar tasting beer up and down the coast?

    Yes. Also, coast to coast.

Most of it is indeed similar. But it's fun trying differnt brands and sending beer for something else.

Tired Hands beer to me have a distinct taste and mouthfeel that I don't get in other NE IPAs that I've had. In my opinion they do the style the best out of anyone.

Really a good business model by Tired Hands for maximum profit:

They only incur production costs associated with wholesaling, but charge retail pricing.

Then some customers pay for distribution costs by shipping or driving the beer themselves!

The same customers also increase demand by increasing the market size to the entire United States through trading. Tired Hands thus gets to increase the retail price as well.

Is there a brewery in the US that prices as high as TH? I can't think of a single 4 for 4 trade with a "hot" brewery that isn't at a loss to the person trading Tired Hands.

i think trillium 4 pk's are often 18-22... isn't treehouse like $3.50 - 6.50/can depending on what it is... that's $14-26 a 4 pk.. besides those 2 i'm not sure anywhere on the east coast matches them in price.. no clue how much monkish is but have to imagine they are also close in price and i'm seeing other places charge $18/4pk.. i think the new magnify dipa is going to be $18/4pk

Aslin crowlers are typically about $14, that's more expensive than every Tired Hands can and about 2X the price of most.

Inherent bias exists without trading. Growlers are a package and are shipped all over.

Even if there was a .25 inflation factor, the weighted average of Tired Hands is still higher due to the sheer amount of reviews. I get there are issues with trading, and that is a different side conversation (I agree with you,) but to say that the Hidden River ratings are more valid is a flawed line of thinking.

The popular rating app website has over 15k ratings for Hidden River with a 3.94 average. Tired Hands has a 4.03 with over 530k ratings. The ratings are what they are. If you like Hidden River better, good for you. But do not discount the data because it does not agree with you.

The data will always be skewed in Tired Hands' favor since many ratings have a +.5-1.0 hype factor included.

Why the hype though? Why can't Hidden River have the hype?

I was originally responding to the comment that Hidden River was "not even close to being in the same ballpark" as Tired Hands, in terms of quality. I guess the term "ballpark" is subjective , but I don't see how these numbers show that. The difference in ratings average is relatively minor.

For me personally, the quality is similar so it's the pricing value and variety of styles that are the deciding factors in my preference.

Do people really rely on Untappd ratings to gauge the relative quality of breweries (as if comparing singular beers by their Untappd rating isn't crazy enough)? I know nobody here is treating a 4.07 as an objective indicator of quality; but it's still an incredibly flimsy gauge of how well-liked it is, isn't it? I've never seen anyone treat those aggregate numbers seriously.

Anyone have any idea on the next non Ourison or Shambolic bottle release? Saw they put Whatever, Nevermind on tap and I know they released that last year.

I don't take untappd ratings seriously although I know from listening to Steal This Beer that Greg Avola (co-founder of untappd) says that anything over a 4 tends to be a great beer.
