Next weekend I'll be making a trip out to Philly and on that Sunday on my way out of the city I'm going to stop at Tired Hands to check it out. I have never been there but here it's amazing. My question is that on their website it says to arrive early because they don't take reservations, is it usually that crazy? I'll be meeting a friend over there and it won't be until the late afternoon, am I crazy for thinking that I will be able to just show up and get a seat at the bar?

Thank you to everyone for the info!

Interestingly enough, I was there for my first visit yesterday (Saturday). We happened to get there just before they opened at 12 and it was incredible how quickly the downstairs bar and tables filled up (never got upstairs). Beer and food were amazing per all reviews as was the service. I'm thinking late Sunday afternoon wouldn't be too bad but couldn't say for sure based on my initial visit. Enjoy!

If there's a bottle release next Sunday (not announced, but possible, since they always do their releases on Sundays), it will be crazy until about 2:30. You should be fine after that.

If you are passing through on the 13th, bag Tired Hands and hit the Forest & Main second anniversary party. You'll thank me for the change in plans.

Interesting, thats going to be a tough decision. Never been either Tired Hands or Forest and Main. For a bottle release I would probably show up early and endure the madness by myself and still have my friend come after. However a two year anniversary of another awesome brewery sounds amazing as well. Decisions suck

Just to be clear, no one knows of a bottle release Sunday. It would be very uncool to schedule one over Forest and Main's anniversary party, so I think you're safe.

I had heard there might be one on the 13th, but probably not based on what you've said. However I've heard this from a number of people so whatever.

If there's a release @ TH on Sunday, I'd skip it and go to F&M first, then catch TH later in the day. Sure, you don't get bottles, but you avoid waiting 3 hours in line and avoid the worst of the crowd at both places.

Looks like they have 510 bottles at 2 pp. So that probably means 300 on hand and get there before 9:30 if you want one.

It seems to be a crap shoot with these guys as to how busy they will be. I've been there 3 times. For two of them, there was no wait at the bar (both of these were Saturdays, mid-afternoon). Yesterday (Sunday) couldn't even get a table at around 2. Was lucky that a table cleared up and the waitress already knew that the GF and I were looking for one. And a big FU to the guy that took up two seats next to the upstairs bar to drink alone.

Considering there is going to be a bottle release, the place is probably going to be a disaster for anyone not looking to try and snag a couple of bottles.

I think its a dick move to have a bottle release the same day Forest & Main have their second anniversary shindig.

What was the scenario? I've asked folks to move shit and I've moved for folks to accommodate for the people to sit when space is open.

what is this forrest and main you speak of?

Forrest and main is a micro brewery located in Ambler. They tend to specialize in British and Belgian beers with lower abv and served from a hand pump. Def check them out if you get a chance. A different vibe from TH for sure.

Hahahaha...that's pretty funny. You and I got shut out last time, bro, but I think they were much more clear that they have 510 bottles for sale to people on Sunday. Last time, they said they produced 400 and everyone assumed they meant all were for sale, which ended up not being the case. I'm not going to humor them still though, but the chance is better this time.

Yeah I was also shut out last time (by 2 people, ugh), but in the release TH did seem to be saying that 510 was the amount of bottles that's going to be available to people to buy Sunday. Thank god they did an accurate bottle count this time.

I don't really understand why it's a "dick move" to hold a release the day of F&M's 2nd anniversary... Does Jean know the owner of F&M or something? How are the two things related? Unless Jean personally knew staff at Forrest and Main, I don't see why he he would schedule or reschedule an event based around another breweries schedule. They're two competing businesses.
