Hold on, I thouight the whole "beer thing" was a community? I have at least been involved in one conversation where another brewery owner who was discussing the local craft landscape and encouraged the participants in the conversation to visit other local breweries and not just his. He made the comment about water raising all boats.

So, I think the person who made the comment is merely saying that it would be nice to celebrate and mark the anniversary of F&M and give them their day in the sun as opposed to running interference on the same day. For example, some people were dismissive when CCB had their free beer day and took away some of the thunder of 7venth Sun's Hunah Hangover day. The anniversary party of F&M was announced a LONG time ago and TH could easily have had the release on Sat or simply postpone a week if they wanted F&M to have the stage on Sunday. Instead, they announced the release on the same day at basically the same time.

I don't think it makes much difference to be honest and some are probably happy that at least some of the crowd will be standing in line at TH and not packing in F&M. You can certainly hit both but either miss bottles at TH or miss some of the beers that F&M will pour on Sunday.

And to answer your question, Jean has posted on F&M facebook, so I would say it is pretty certain that the ownership of both know each other at least professionally so to speak.

Yeah, I do understand the sentiment, and it is nice to think about the craft community (especially locally) as a collection of beer lovers rather just competing businesses, though it's probably fair to say it's a good bit of both. Maybe Jean was unaware of the anniversary? Perhaps he spoke with the people at F&M and they said it was fine for him to do a bottle release Sunday? What time does Forrest and Main's shindig even start? Because obviously the bottles are going to be gone by about 12:30-1, so if someone wanted to get bottles from TH they would still have the whole rest of the day to spend at F&A.

They know each other quite well, and I am fairly certain this was not intended to be a slap in the face of Gerard and and Dan from Forest & Main (and for the love of God can everyone in this thread spell the word Forest correctly).

I think I may go again this time just to get my first bottle from them. I will be there early enough to not be on the edge of getting a bottle. Judging by the last release I really think 9:30 maybe the safe time that you would guaranteed to be allocated a bottle.

I'd do 10:00 - 10:30. Even if the line is well passed the post office, you still have a good chance since the count seems to be accurate this time around and 250 people will get their bottles. Let me know if you ended up with an extra so we can do a proper trade this time around

I would simply do a count at some point in time say around 1 hour out and if you are within say 10% of #255 consider that you might not get a sniff given the inevitable line jumpers & line mules that will magically appear. If you are say #225 or around that one hour out, cross your fingers and hope that you have not wasted your time. The TH facebook has lots of postings from people respectfully requesting a ticket system, but to-date, crickets. Good luck to all giving it the old college try on Sunday. Hope everyone is successful.

I was there this past Sunday with my family. While everything was good, I was not blown away. Granted, they didn't have their A line up but I really didn't think they were all that special.

    I tried:
    HopHands
    Beautiful Crystalline Structure
    Second Level
    Adult Menu (Cask)
    Such Passion

Such Passion was clearly the most outstanding of the bunch. It was exceptional. The rest were good but not great.

You missed Koala (Berliner) that and SuchPassion were the standouts from my visit on Sunday!

It's funny that everyone cares about Forest & Main when Tired Hands holds a bottle release the same day as F&M's anniversary but no one ever mentions F&M when a "where to go in Philly" thread pops up. It's all "when in Centery City take a regional to Tired Hands!"

Koala was excellent. I happened to really like Perfectly Preserved Brain as well. Just the right level of smokiness.

F&M typically pops up in those threads. Maybe not as emphatically as TH, but they are usually mentioned.

I've seen F&M mentioned all the time in those threads. I think going to both is worthwhile, but it really depends on what you like. If you prefer British style ales and more traditional saisons, go to F&M. If you want IPAs, more experimental saisons, and some style bending beers, go to TH.

For me, TH has more repeat visit value because of the (almost crazy) frequency that they turn over their taplist. Every time I go, I know I'll be able to try at least 3-4 new beers. Forest & Main doesn't have quite that level of variety, but when they make something good, it's really good. I'm glad we have both in our backyard.

This is pretty funny that screen names from two of my favorite bands replied to me.
