I was thinking about checking out their cafe for the first time. Do they sell bottles there? Is there a retail shop of some sort that is part of the cafe? Or they only distribute to area shops? I've read their release days at the cafe sell out with long waits, but is that only for special releases or everything? Thanks ahead for the help.

At this time bottles aren't regularly available.. Just released on certain announced days and yes the lines can be long. It's still a super chill spot on non release days and the beer really is special. Growlers fills are average priced also

Get the grilled choice. Aside from buying their beer it might be one of the better choices you make while visiting.

For an extra 30 mins of driving time, check out Forest and Main. Small menu with a killer cheese tray selection that was voted in the top 10 cheese offerings in the city and burbs. Great beers as well.

Keep in mind that they only fill their own growlers. Not everything in available for fillings and the food is great.

Get the grilled cheese**** autocorrect from the phone killing me once again. Make sure to follow them on Instagram and facebook, they do a great job of keeping their tap list up to date and since its small-ish batches it tends to not stay around that long if it's something really great.

I would be careful about the "average priced" growlers. It's easy to get dinged for a $20 liter fill. Their beers are great, but sometimes they are nearly double the price of comparable breweries. The growler prices are also not posted, so be sure to ask if price is a concern.

Grilled cheese is awesome. Not sure I've ever had food I didn't like there. Candied bacon is a must. They are so good I took home a saison when I was there Tuesday. Generally speaking I don't care for the style, but everything they do is that good.

I have to disagree with the bolded part. It's really not that "easy." Basically only the barrel fermented stuff is $20 per 1L and I think probably every single time I've gotten a fill of those, the bartender has (without me asking) specifically let me know beforehand that it's a $20 growler before filling it.

I found it pretty easy. One of the last growlers I had filled was "Foliage", which was a really great DIPA. It was $20 for a 1L fill and it wasn't mentioned by the bartender, nor do I think it was his responsibility to mention it. I'm only mentioning it because someone who is a first time visitor to Tired Hands might think $10 a pint for a growler fill is on the high side. Again, I'm not debating the relative value or economies of scale compared to other breweries. It's just a heads up.

Is reasonable to note the high growler prices. I payed $20 for a liter fill of a dipa recently. While it was good enough I probably would have payed it again, it's worth noting that $20 would get you 2 liters filled at hill farmstead brewery

It happened on my past trip. My brother got dinged for a $20 fill without a single heads up. Ultimately we weren't that concerned but it's a good point and it definitely happens.

OP, there has also been a lot of chatter on the growler fills quickly going flat as well. I am sure you can easily find this by searching discussion threads. Some will tell you that the growlers hold up, can be shipped, etc. Others will tell you a very different story including some of the staff. Just don't want you to be surprised.

I'd agree on all the points made about growlers, you should definitely ask ahead of time, I got surprised with the $20 Foliage too. From my experience they do tend to go flat pretty quickly too. I've had some go flat in as little as a day so drink up!

I've never had one go flat on me. I do tape the seal as soon as I get it home so maybe that helps.

Get the fish and chips, best I've had. Their imperial pints for 5$ of fantastic beer doesn't hurt either.

I haven't been there for a long time. Are the imperial pints and $5 pours new? If so, it's good to hear they've fixed the practice of over-priced short pours.

That's probably not a bad idea. It's really hit or miss for me, but it seems like their saisons hold their carb better than their IPAs. My $20 growler of Foliage went flat in 24hrs and I used the swingtop and refrigerated it immediately. I'm hoping these carb issues can somehow be resolved when the new facility opens
