Ya and the whole foods he ran in Devon is stuck with about 30 kegs of overpriced beers and countless bottles that he brought in because they were "rare", and i'm not talking cbs / bcbs / pliny rare. I'm talking obscure nobody really wants rare. Now they can't sell them at the pricepoint implemented and they are just sitting there like dead inventory. Just another know it all yet know nothing move that I have to point out.

So you are saying if I had my Stone growler filled with TH beer everyone T the brew pub would suddenly be craving Stone brewed beer? Most people would assume it was filled with Stone beer if I was seen with it on my way home too as well? Do you honestly think through what you post here or just ramble?

I honestly think that if Jean had been there he would have filled my growler in a second. He filled the clear one last time and he BREWS the beer! But this Steve guy who works at TH had to prove his superior beer knowledge and save me from a growled of delicious beer. He works there. Jean brews the beer. If the guy making the product can be unpretentious about it why does this clerk have to be.

Or, just maybe, Jean has told his employees to either only fill Tired Hands growlers or brown ones, but can decide for himself to break the rules when he feels like it. Honestly, you really don't know and should probably just let it go. It'll be healthier for you in the long run.

    All,

Firstly, many thanks for your five pages of interest in Tired Hands... This has been a good read.

    A few things:

We DO NOT fill clear growlers. Period. If you had a clear growler filled at Tired Hands before, it was likely during our first week or two of operation before I had put a concrete standard operating procedure into place. If you had another brewery's growler filled at Tired Hands before, it was likely during our first week or two of operation before I had put a concrete standard operating procedure into place.

We work entirely too hard and adhere to painstaking protocol in the brewery and on the service end to fill a vessel that (given the proper conditions) will DRASTICALLY compromise the integrity of our beer within seconds. This is a risk that I will not take, and I ask that you respect that decision or buy a damn Tired Hands growler... They're five bucks.

We do not fill other brewery's growlers, as the PLCB laws are really quite vague on the issue. I'd rather play it safe than make a misstep with the State. That's it and that's all folks.

Also, personal attacks on my staff are attacks on me (I'm lookin' at you NPAS). Please be nice or contact me direct if you feel that you have been wronged in any way at Tired Hands ([email protected]). With no exception, my crew is comprised of some of the most diligent and hard working people that I have ever worked with.

One last note on growlers: I plan on bringing in flip-top 64 oz growlers by the end of the year. They will cost a bit more, but I will feel much more at ease sending our beautiful beers out the door to be shipped to god-knows-where.

We are also planning a small expansion in our back lot that will afford us much more storage space, when this happens, I will likely begin stocking 32oz growlers as well. We are totally out of storage space in our current facility!

I am sorry for being an ass and lashing out in a childish manner over something as silly as 5 dollars. Jean and his staff are making THE best beer in PA and I am glad that I have been fortunate enough to experience some of it. Again, sorry to anyone who has read this for being a dick.

heh, nice 180. In my opinion, Jean is making saisons and exceedingly aromatic hop-forward ales that are quite personal to him. Experimental, yet quaint. I love the odd adjuncts(borage, cara cara, rhubarb) and most of all, his happy yeast. Best brewpub in PA!

The link says nothing about using or not using spent grains. That said, when I asked them months ago about it, they said it was not made with spent grains.

I ask when the first opened and Jean said he doesn't want bread getting "stuck in his teeth" so no spent grain in the bread

yeah. was gonna say. the only way that bread was made with spent grains is if they dried the grains, ground them up into flour, and then bleached them. which i don't think they would do. i've made spent grain bread before, and it's nothing like that.

Anyone know of a rain date for that Tired Hands Beer Dinner yet? I'd be surprised if that's still happening on Tuesday. I already moved all my Monday event postings to their new dates.

I was there this evening and Jean said it was indeed going to be postponed. Did not have a date set for when it will be held.

Dang! I hope I don't have to cancel out of another night of work to make the rain date.

Sorry for a slight derail, but I didn't want to start a new thread.

I'm PA and want to buy a growler soon. I understand that a brewery cannot fill a growler with another brewery's logo. I don't generally visit breweries though. What about bars and such? If I'm at D's Six Packs or Smokin Joe's Saloon, can I get a Penn Brewery growler filled with something from another brewery? I hate our laws.
