I believe it only applies to microbreweries. I've gone to bars and Whole Foods and filled up with whatever growler I had.

Had the r5 saison the other day at the station taproom...nailed it. They show promise and definitely have room to grow and i'll be sure to grab any pint I see from these guys in the future.

Places with only a brewery or manufacturing license (Weyerbacher/East End) are required to fill either their own labeled growlers or blank ones. Brewpubs have a different license and can fill any growler. Some brewpubs, like Tired Hands and Iron Hill (IH also have full "R" licenses to serve liquor) choose to make it their company policy to only fill their own or blank growlers. Another thing some people might not know is that with a brewpub license, you can serve PA wines along with your beer without needing a full liquor license.

Thank you for distinguishing those things. It's a twisted, convoluted state we live in.

I was with Jean just before he left tonight, he is still waiting out the storm, he will see what daybreak brings.

I'm still going to try to go, but now I have to attempt to get off work (at my job, I can't simply "call off").

Since you haven't bought the growler yet, why not just buy an unmarked one, and avoid any possible disappointment regardless of where you go?

Mostly because I'm not sure where to buy one locally and I'd rather not pay insane shipping prices to order one. If I can find a blank one, of course that's what I'll go for.

Homebrew Store, like TLaG said. Or... I don't know what craft beer bars are in your area, but some sell generic empty growlers.

Interesting. I wonder why places that can actually serve beer in any growler would choose to only serve beer this way.

interesting... to add to this, i had a hill farmstead growler that i wanted filled with delicado (TH/HF col.) and it wasn't aloud. To this i say oh well and just bought a few TH growlers (i have a bit of a growler collection problem)...

They don't want their beer in a vessel with someone else's label. Marketing. I've walked down a street or been on a train and people look at the growler or ask about it. If the company's logo is out there, it can generate opportunities for more business. If the growler is brought to a party, for instance, there would be associations made with the label on the growler. If someone enjoys the beer (made by Brewery A), they look at the label (Brewery B) and may decide to spend their money at the brewery on the label.

I'm sure there are plenty of scenarios people can come up with for the pros and cons of growler policies. However, this is my view on it.
