I went into Tired Hands last night it was a great time. When I tried to leave I asked them to fill my girlfriends purse with Hophands because I was too stupid to bring a real growler and too cheap to buy one of their growlers. F this place and all that are involved.

I'm glad they have the integrity to stick to their guns and not fill growlers they fill will depreciate their beer more than they would like. I wish more places were like this. First time I went in to Tired Hands I took a growler I got from The Beer Store. It has a Stone insignia on it. They refused to fill it for that reason. So like a reasonable human being I said Ok, then I purchased an inferior growler from them of Sea of Green. Went home enjoyed the hell out of it and for the next time I went back I took a fliptop growler with no other brewery's logo on it and they were happy to fill it for me.

    Seems simple right?

My first growlers from Sly Fox and Dogfish were clear. Sly Fox switched to brown glass years ago, not sure about DFH. I now use the clear growlers for yeast starters; I can see what's going on.

Southampton Publick House also uses clear growlers.

My wife had a clear growler from Iron Hill. She had it filled there and the waiter put it in a paper bag to keep the sun off it. I guess that would be too complicated a solution.

I agree with Steve. I would not let someone leave my house with a clear growler fill. And that's just homebrew. My livelihood doesn't depend on it.

So does earthbread. It's not really a big deal as most bars serve beer in clear glasses and you can put the growler in a brown bag when you leave..... oh wait, maybe it is because tired hands can't even offer you a bag even when you buy a brand new growler from them and also pay a ridiculous filling price. I personally would have just wrapped it in duct tape or a brown bag and then see what that know it all (but really know nothing) Steve would have to say then.

It's one thing to inform someone about the down side of using a clear growler, it's pretty ridiculous to refuse to fill it though, especially when it is an ipa the customer intends on going home to consume right away.

The CP fillers at Troegs, Victory, etc. actually do a double pre-evacuation.
The growler is pressed airtight against the filler valve and air is evacuated and pressurized with carbon dioxide, followed by a second evacuation and pressurizing with carbon dioxide, this is what is called double pre-evacuation. Double pre-evacuation can reduce the air fraction in the bottle to about 1%. The beer flows into a virtually pure carbon dioxide atmosphere.

I believe Triumph used to (or still does?) use clear growlers

    This.

I know their website still lists a 4 PM opening but states that they might change hours after being open for a few weeks.

Anyone here planning on attending their All Hallows Eve Beer Supper? The menu, along with Black Lagoon sounds superb.

I'll tell you what...I was skeptical about the price of the Lost Abbey dinner put on at Capone's too...but the food was ridiculously good, and the pours were plentiful in both quantity, and volume. I'd like to pay a bit less too, obviously...but I'll reserve judgment on value until afterwards. Usually, these dinners do nothing for me since I'm a picky eater...but the menu on this looks like I can actually eat and enjoy a vast majority of what's served.

I would go, but I heard this place was exclusionary, elitist and too mainline. At least that's what I read on the internet.

You wish more places enforce rules like that? You realize the growler having the Stone insignia on it makes literally no difference in how the beer will taste down the road? I can only assume you need constant guidance from authority and enjoy pointless rules designed only to control you.

My opinion of Tired Hands hasn't changed -- I appreciate what they're doing, they make pretty good beer, and I'll go when I'm in the area or it's convenient. In the meantime there are usually better options, but that's just my opinion.
