I just picked up a New Holland Night Tripper and was wondering if my fellow BA's prefer this one fresh or with some age on it. I've never had it before, but if it gets better with age I don't mind waiting.

Also what are some of your favorite beers to drink with some age on them?

For me, I like to age Expedition, Founders imperial stout, and Bigfoot all improve with age.

Drink it now if you've never had it.

You'd think people would know this answer already.

I would imagine Night Tripper would be ok aged. It's not overly expensive. So if you can easily get it, scoop up another and forget about it for a year. Drink your current one and note it in untappd. Compare. Done.

How long on Old Ruffian? It may be my highest reviewed Barleywine and it was very fresh when I reviewed. In your opinion, when is its sweet spot? Thx for any thoughts or suggestions.

My friends and I have done a year and two years and this year in November we are doing a three year old one. We have done this with foghorn and Bigfoot too. I personally felt Old Ruffian was the best after two years. The bitterness is still there but not at the forefront and neither is the booze. What your left with is more sweet malt which I love in a barleywine and the alc is more hidden. Nothing better than a year old Bigfoot though. Foghorn better after a year also. Old Ruffian has the highest alc % out of the three so I think it holds up better and just keeps getting smoother and smoother. Can't wait for November.
