I have to imagine it's pretty awful, but I have to admit I'm intrigued by the gimmick. As a mountaineer, the idea of mixing up a nice beer on a summit somewhere sounds fun, even if I assume the resulting product might be less than stellar. http://aortafood.com/to-ol-instant-craft-beer/
At least they are approaching it with sound science and actually attempting to make the best product they can...or so it seems...definitely an interesting bit of info...thanks...
But if you need to carry water and alcohol to add to the mix - why not just carry the beer? what's the difference between carrying 12 oz of sparkling water, and a 12 oz can of beer?
The extra steps that make backpacking fun...cooking and such at least...plus if you are really trekking you will have a water filter...
You could use one of these in conjunction with one of these and carbonate your instant beer. I think it's a cool idea and like that they're putting some science behind it.
I agree that the science is cool. It just seems like they invented a product as a solution to a problem that didn't' exist.
In addition to the aforementioned ability to inject gas into it - depending on the outing you may be melting water along the way, so you needn't necessarily carry in the water that goes into the beer. Certainly on longer expeditions it could be a much lighter way to get beer into base camp.
Sounds suspicious to me! I can't see this taking off except intospace maybe. All that mixing. Ready made is good for me.
