I just wanted to raise my glass tonight to these unsung artisans who, for centuries, have been creating and perfecting the vessels that store and preserve our precious beer for weeks, months, even decades. For nights when I can't get out of the house - or just don't want to - I could not enjoy all this wonderful nectar without these unassuming containers.

Humble beer, made mostly from water, stored in glass bottles, made from plain old sand.

And to the canners as well!

    Cheers!

To the German brewer's, please stop putting you're delicious, yet delicate beer in green bottles.

Hey, there's no prob with green bottles. So long as they're filled with cider, soda, or any other non-beer/un-hopped liquids.

to the bottle makers: make a 7oz brown bottle that takes a crown cap that will be easily available at HB stores. I would love to put my high alcohol home brew in a 7 oz bottle.

And to the English, with their clear bottles. I really don't get how a brewery like Innus & Gunn, for instance, can go through all the trouble of barrel-aging a beer then be okay with putting it in a clear bottle.

I didn't know Edinburgh, Scotland was in England now? Or do we just blame the English for everything the Scots do?

My mistake, but come to think of it, the other widest offender I can kind of, Belhaven, is Scottish, too.

In any case, that explanation of clear bottles seems kind of funny to me because I've had clearly skunked Innis & Gunn that didn't dissipate. When I showed my girlfriend the regular oak-aged beer, she said, "It smells like a 40."

It's interesting that they say "want to test this out? Try it for 10 minutes." Even though sunlight is stronger than flourescent (or other indoor lighting), I imagine a real test would be days or weeks long, not 10 mins.

"Bottle beer can become lightstruck in less than one minute in bright sun..." according to the book The Practical Brewer, by the Master Brewers' Association of the Americas (1977).
It can happen just sitting at a picnic table with a glass of beer...

Their logic and explanation goes against any and all taste tests I've had on their beers.
