Hey I am wanting to brew a porter next Friday with Coconut nose and taste being the primary thing. It’s only my second ever brew and I’m a extract brewer as of right now. So I will be buying an all extract recipe kit from from my local homebrew store. My question is the kit doesn’t include coconut and I’m going to add it myself. From what I’ve seen on other recipes I should add it after fermentation is done. How much would be good for taste and nose in 5 gallons. I love coconut beers so the more the better but I don’t want to ruin a 5 gallon run either. Also if I added bourbon soaked wood chips to the fermentation bucket at the same time will it still carbonate in the bottle with my priming sugar or would I need to ad more yeast? Thanks for any help.

Here is a good link about adding coconut. I referenced it recently for my first coconut beer. It was a coconut brown ale btw, turned out nice.

And no, you do not need to add more yeast just because you add bourbon and oak. More yeast at bottling is only recommended for high gravity beers and sours. Even then, its not always necessary.
