Binnys in McHenry still had a decent amount the other day. So tasty I had to grab another 4 pk.

 

So ... the Amager version just showed up at a local shop in bombers (beer cellar). Was this some unannounced surprise plan by Surly/Amager or is this just some freak drop at one shop?

Wonder how they taste? Aren't they lower abv than the cans.

 

There wasn't another batch canned beyond the 8/4 date, correct? I think 8/4 was the latest I saw?

 

Just picked one up today - 6.5% ABV vs. the 7.2% for the Surly cans.

 

Same recipe but different brewing equipment. It seems to be the general consensus that the Amager version is not on the same level as the Surly brewed version. Stick with the cans, if possible.

 

Does anyone know if this Amager release had been announced, or is a regular thing? Or was this just a "hey, look at that!" moment? Sort of caught me off guard.

I think a couple of my 4-packs were 8/6. I think.

Definitely had some from 8/6. Actually, those were available locally before the 8/4 batches...

 

The ones I got yesterday were 8/6. Orland Park Binny's still had a case or two yesterday when I was there.

 

I'm in the NW 'burbs. Anyone have any leads? Called a few places...crickets. Looking for a 4-pack for this weekend!

 

The Binny's in St. Charles had quite a few cases late last week, but those could easily be gone.

 

I called a few Binny's last night. Their online inventory claimed they had it, but none did. And Arlington Heights Binny's was by far the friendliest. The other two were rude as hell.

 

Hmm, when I called last week they were polite and helpful. Maybe they've reached the tipping point and they are tired of all the calls. I guess I can understand...

I did a side by side with the Amager version and it was fine, but not a patch on the Surly version. Skip the Amager bottles if you see them, shipping has been unkind, and frankly it just isn't quite as good on every level.

 

Gotcha. I was planning on taking these on the golf course, so bottles weren't really in my plans anyway.
