I didn't try it, but Tongue Tickles won 1st place at the inaugural L.A. IPA Festival last weekend at Mohawk Bend. Pretty impressive considering what it was stacked up against. Here are the other beers it was judged against...

Almanac Beer Company – Almanac IPA
    Alpine Beer Company – Duet
Anderson Valley Brewing Co. – Hop Ottin’

Moylan’s Brewing – Wet Hop Harvest
Noble Ale Works – Tongue Tickles
North Coast Brewing – XXV Anniversary Session Ale (dry-hopped w/ Simcoe)
Ohana Brewing – Delta Force IPA
Pacific Plate Brewing – Mango IPA
    Pizza Port – Swami's IPA
    Port Brewing – Wipeout IPA
The Lost Abbey – Merry Taj
    Rubicon Brewing – Rubicon IPA
Russian River Brewing – Pliny the Elder
Smog City Brewing – Grape Ape IPA (with Chardonnaygrapes)
    Societe Brewing – The Pupil
Speakeasy Ales – Big Daddy IPA
St. Archer Brewing – St. Archer IPA
    Stone Brewing – Stone IPA

Had two bottles of this great dipa. And ready to get a few more. Right up there with Pliny? Don't think so. And at 9 bucks per bottle. But it is my favorite new ipa/dipa for 2013. It's got a great aroma and a big bold taste. Noble has been doing great the last 6-12 months. If they keep Tongue on a regular rotation and put Nobility and Royality back on tap/bottles then that would be great. A few years back I would not even think about buying Noble after trying their IPA and DIPA. I occasionally will buy their Big Whig now. But the problem is you don't see the bottles in a lot of stores. WF and Total and a few other locals. I think they got a bad rep back when they first opened. That should change now.

When you consider Pliny is $6-$7 a bottle and only 16oz it actually is $8.25-$9.625 per 22oz (the Tongue Tickles size) really not that bad of a price.

I pay $4.99 at Hi Time for Pliny. Anyone charging more than that should be reported to Stone Distribution or Russian River. They will stop sending Pliny to accounts that overcharge!

Its pretty common price for it here in San Diego. Think I know of 2 places that charge $5 and the rest charge $6-$7

I pay 4.79-4.99 for pliny at my local. Another place I used to pick up pliny had it for 3.99 for the longest time. I think its now 4.29. But that was over a year ago. And I'm also going by taste. If I'm really hard up for pliny I will pay over 5 for it. I just paid 9 for a bottle of Pure Hoppiness. I can get it at the brewery for 6. Is Pure worth 9 vs 9 for Tongue? Yes. I would pay 9 again for tongue. But I wont pay 10 for some of Knee Deeps. Not saying Knee
Deep is not good. For me it's just not worth the higher $$'s.

I hear ya man. I love Simtra so I will pay the $10+ for it when I want it. But yea with Alpine so close I would rather head up there and stock up on their IPAs for a fraction. I cant believe Pliny is that cheap at some places thats cheap than the brewery itself isnt it?

I just tried it tonight and it was spectacular! I'd put in in my personal IPA top 10. I'd definitely put it in the same ballpark as Pliny and Citra. I'd like to do a side-by-side in the future to see how it truly holds up.

    I got mine for $7.99.

Stopped by brewery yesterday and they were all out of bottles. No growler fills. Thank god there was no growler fills. Brand new growlers emptied were $10 for 1L and $20 for 2L. Regular twist off cap growlers. Fuk that!
