No joke, I bought a brand new Chimay goblet at a local QFC for $1.99. I never get to use it though for some reason.

In an effort to limit my glassware obsession. I'll only buy them at the brewery. Otherwise, gotta catch 'em all.

When I was stationed at Camp Lejeune all the bars served beer in mason jars if it was on tap. I survived on Bud and mason jars ok.

Glasses are just like beer shirts, you can never have too many.

I had to check this thread out & make sure the wife hadn't planted it. Too many glasses has definitely become a nasty habit of the beer nut and I myself am no exception to the rule. I definitely switch glasses style to style when I'm drinking @ home. I'm a big fan of my dimpled pint mug, my Samuel Smith English tulip pint, & my Duvel tulip for the strong stuff...those are what I have in regular rotation. I've gotten away from the shaker pints though I have about a half dozen of them. An Aventinus glass for the obvious and the occasional German competitor worthy of the vessel & a couple of traditional glass steins one from Paulaner & one from a German beer tour emblazoned w/several German brewers. The only glass for style I don't have and have less interest in is a pilsner glass, never been a fan. In search of a snifter, a Chimay goblet, a replacement for my fallen Left Hand English pint & perhaps the Sam Adams pint glass @ some point. Which I'm sure will lead to more cries of "Do you really need another beer glass?" from the wife...Do you really need another purse??

Love it when this happens. I was at the Habitat Restore in Kalamazoo, picking up some windows and stuff. Found a Church Brew Works small flute for $.50. It's about 5 oz. and has made a nice addition to our tastings.

Love to collect. OK this isn't the proper thread, but since I have the ears of those who possibly like to collect glassware, FT Darkness snifter, ISO 3F teku or HofD stemware

I like that I finally have one of most of the basic glass styles (like, 9 different styles of glass) - logo free - and just a few glasses with logos... The Duvel tulip was always my favorite glass, but I also felt compelled to hide the logo if anything other than Duvel was in it.
Too many? Probably, but I have the space (barely) and they get the use, so its fun. I get a lot of use out of my current tulip, large snifter, and nonic pint. My stange glass gets the least action, in part due to the fact it has a slight imperfection on the lip, and in part (as DarkDragon999 noted) I don't seem to drink any beers that are suited for it (I'd rather pour into/drink from the pint than the stange).

As long as we will buy them, they will continue to make new ones. And it's gotten to the point where so many of the glasses are similar that it's forcing Breweries to come up with new ideas just to stand out from the rest. The new DFH IPA glass is ridiculous IMO, but I will be purchasing one when I am in Rehoboth this summer.

Am working on an article right now for Brew Your Own magazine on glassware styles. Trying to use science and physics as my basis, with a bit of tradition/history thrown in. Watch for it - you don't need as many styles as you think - but they are fun to collect., I admit.

The fact that any one of us is on this social network, specifically reading this thread means that we have at least a very slight obsession with beer. Some people collect baseball cards, or rocks, or stamps. We are beer geeks so we collect bottles & cans, glassware, neon signs, and beer T shirts. Do we need all this stuff? Of course not. I just keep it in the places that I would otherwise keep baseball cards, rocks, or stamps if that is what I collected.

    Let's do the math....

    1) Beer tasting at a store or pub: $20
    2) Pint night at a pub and pay 2-4x the amount per beer than I can pay in a store. Average overspending: $20-30
    3) Visit a craft brewery: Plant ticket, $300. Hotel for the night, $100. Cabs or rental car for the day, $50. Minimum spent: $450.

    OR

    1) Buy a glass at Total Wine: $4

Yeah, your way is FREE.
