No need to count or not count just keep on drinking! Just was amused this morning that there is a list of bottom beers and that I had never noticed. All in good fun.

    Cheers

So "doing numbers" didn't mean counting? Guess I misinterpreted what you were saying.

I don't know, I lost count a few times, and honestly I don't remember many of them I may (or may have not tried). So, take my results with a huge grain of salt.

Are we counting sampling at beer fests or splitting bottles? Because that makes a difference.

Regardless, I was around maybe 59 or 60 for the Top 250, ~99 for the Beers of Fame, and then I was at 26 or so and only about 40 deep for the Bottom 100...

I'm surprised at some results for the bottom 100...didn't you guys go to college?

Indeed you did because my point was I will continue to buy beers I like or new ones that seem interesting irrespective of how they rank on a list.

Huh, never noticed the bottom list. If I had been keeping track years ago, I'd certainly have a good chunk taken out of that list. Anyways.

    Top 5/250
    Beers of Fame 16/250
    Top New Beers 5/250
    Top Virginia 21/100

Not bad for someone who hasn't been here for a year yet. Lots learned, lots of tasty beer consumed.

In terms of what I've reviewed or rated on here I'm at:

    Top 250 - 41/250
    Beers of Fame - 59/250
    Top New Beers - 14/250
Bottom of the list - 5/100
    Top Illinois Beers - 43/100

I'm sure some of these numbers are higher based on what I've actually drunk but not reviewed. Lately I've been trying to seek out Illinois beers on the top IL beer list as a fun challenge. I honestly don't check the top 250 much since Im so unlikely to have many of those beers. The beers of fame on the other hand I do check occasionally since so many of those beers are actually readily available.

Bottom 100: I have never rated any of them, so I did a quick count and I spotted 19 that I know for certain that I have had in the past.

Yeah I did (and I'm happy to say I learned my lesson - no more cow tipping after drinking an entire Schmidty sports pack). And frankly, I'm not surprised at all by the bottom 100. I don't see a single beer on the list that I can honesty say doesn't deserve to be on it.

Have tried three beers from the bottom 10, and can honestly say that all three of them (all Ab-InBev products) are some of the most nasty and/or flavorless glasses of swill that I've ever drained poured.

Interesting, happy to see 0 in the bottom, I thought I'd have a few turds in there. Surprised only 19 on the beers of fame list - though I don't rate every beer I drink so there's probably more.
I was happy to see 46 out of the top 100 from NJ as I try to support local and really love the NJ craft beer scene. Its grown so much over the last 3 - 4 years.

I'm with you on the Bottom 100: I generally avoid them and my stats show 9 logged in BA, but I've had at least 19 or 20 others in that "Bottom" list which I've drank over the years. My stats are:

    Top 250 Beers - 55/250
    Beers of Fame - 92/250
    Top New Beers - 19/250
Bottom of the list - 9/100*see note above

Some people posted how many beers they have reviewed, which is a cool addition. So, restating the stats:

    Top 250 Beers: 5/250
    Beers of Fame: 23/250
    Top New Beers: 0/250
    Bottom of the List: 0/100

Out of my whopping 256 beers reviewed since joining in 2011. The zero on the bottom 100 is a bit misleading - before BA I had more than my share of the bottom 100 as listed but that's in the distant past and some things should remain undisturbed.

I don't "chase" the list, some of what I've enjoyed just happens to be there. I've always viewed the Top 250 as analogous to the Top 40 charts tracking what's popular in the moment, so this should be a more dynamic list dominated by relatively "young" beers. The Beers of Fame are those that have staying power and should be somewhat more stable, so for me it is an easy distinction. I'm not sure how the Top New fits into that way of thinking because I don't know the criteria for a "new beer" - seems a bit redundant, possibly, but there's not a lot of overlap between New and Top 250. Maybe it is an attempt to keep the truly scorching hot new darling gotta-have-it-now with brewery parking lot distribution from completely dominating the Top 250.

Regardless, I don't sweat it. The only list that really matters is my own. I am happy that about 10% of the beers I have reviewed are on the Beers of Fame list, but it is completely coincidence. I will say, when I have had one of the beers I see a lot of chatter about I feel cool about it for a moment. But I think it is even better to find the hidden jewels that are not on the list.

As indicated earlier the only overall list on this site that I pay much attention to is the Beers of Fame. Knowing about those beers helped me hone my palate to be able to detect/enjoy things I'd probably have missed without them.

I'm reminded of an old poster I spotted in an antique shop a while back (I think it was vintage 60's or 70's) that showed a Frog and a Pretty Girl picking it up to kiss it. The caption read "You have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a handsome prince."

The beers of fame list is also a useful way to help reduce the number of frogs that get kissed.

Just counting those that I have rated/reviewed here. Of course, the bottom 100 would be much higher if I counted my days as a late teen/early 20s.

    Top 250- 63
    Beers of Fame- 94
    Top New Beers- 25
    Bottom- Just 1.

I have that one beer from the bottom list every year on the anniversary of my father's death- Natural Light. He changed beer allegiances throughout his lifetime- Weidemann, generic BEER, and Natty Light for probably his last decade or two. An incredible man, but one with very simple tastes in beer. He also used to like to pour salt in his beer to create some head.

I have a 30 pack that he still had when he passed and I have committed to having one from that pack every death anniversary in his honor. I am sure they are only going to get better and better as they age.

Top Virginia- 58. This is the only list I would like to climb the list on. I'll certainly never get to 100, but I should be able to continue to make progress on "local" beers.
