Only Hopslam for me even though that is unlike anything from the NE. The NE IPA/DIPA are much better than what we have here.

Totally agree - hoping somebody brews an IPA/DIPA with NE style.

No love for Founder's Centennial? Probably don't get a vote as a non-Michigander, but it's a staple in my fridge and I prefer it over Two Hearted, which is a very good IPA as well.

Ug I hated Oracle this year. Way too bitter for my tastes. Honestly I don't love any of the year-round IPAs that are easily available here in Michigan. My top 3 are:

    1) Bell's Hopsoulution
    2) Petoskey Brewing Hopsessed (can't get enough of this)
    3) DRIPA

Hopslam and Mosaic Promise come to mind first. For the third one, I think maybe I Want My HTV or Sticky Icky Icky (the one Short's beer I've had and actually enjoyed). I saw Hopsoulution mentioned above - I really liked that on draft the one time I had it, but I think I'd need to have it again....same with Double Two Hearted.

As far as NE IPA's vs. MI IPA's, I have yet to get the hype with NE IPA's. I've had Heady & SOS, as well as some "lesser" Tree House, and none have them have blown me away. I'd say nobody has a leg up, it's just what you like.

    Not an IPA guy usually.

    1. Mosaic Promise
    2. Hopslam
    3. Two Hearted

If we include Black IPAs as I've seen a couple times with Goodnight Bodacious, it's:

    1. Uranus
    2. Goodnight Bodacious
    3. Dark Penance
    4. Mosaic Promise

Hopslam and DRIPA are the easy picks. Third is tougher. I used to say TreeBucket, but didn't like the last release as much. Might be a cop out, but I'm calling it a tie between Tasmanian Hatter and Odd Side Project Mayhem.

I'm not terribly familiar on NE IPAs, so I could be way off the mark here. But based on what I've read on BA, NE IPAs tend to be brewery-only or very limited distribution beers. NE IPAs fall off very quickly, hence the small to no real distribution footprint.

Almost all of the MI IPAs in this thread get wide distribution within the state, if not the country. Since they go through the distribution channels, they're made to stand up a bit longer to account for that process. They're still much better the fresher they are, but they do have longer shelf lives than those in NE.

I could see one of the smaller breweries trying a NE-style IPA. I'd be surprised to see any of the big guys here try one.

Had the double two hearted on tap at Bells. Pretty damn tasty. Actually enjoyed it more than Hopslam.

I've had DRIPA one time and it was damn good. If I could get my lips on it more often it might make my list. These three I can at least get when available.
