I've had Pliny, younger and elder. Had heady topper about 3 times. On draft in LA I thought Bear Republic racer X was better than Pliny. Also, while on the west coast, fresh Sculpin was soooo delicious, and I stopped in El Segundo Brewing, and their Mulberry IPA was just fantastic. With all of that, I'm going to make my top three beers I've had on more than a few occasions.

I don't know that I would entirely agree, however those are some awesome IPAs. I did just have dirtwolf, it is fantastic! I was disappointed in Pliney. Don't get me wrong it's a good beer. But in my opinion, Ska Modus Hopperandi blows Pliney out of the water. Such a debate this all can be tho. Schlafly Tasmanian is awesome, as well as their American IPA. Too many great IPA's so little time

I've had HT twice (which was pretty darned good) and PtE multiple times on both draft and in bottles (meh). I'd go for a fresh Union Jack over either one of those any day of the week. Also, Knee Deep Simtra is outstanding. And the much-loved Sculpin is by no means an also-ran.

In my neck of the woods, it is so, so much easier to drink the other beers I just listed that it's not even worth the effort or expense to do Heady Topper or Dirt Wolf (neither distributed in Cali). And Pliny sends the hipsters into a frenzy; kegs blow in hours when it goes on. Yes, the regular old version, not the Younger. And good luck finding it in a bottle; people snap them up as trade bait for parts east so fast that you basically have to know someone at a shop to hold a bottle or two for you.

Too much hype. I'll drink a beer that's just as good and has less insanity about it.

I'm from Florida too. You need to make a few trips to Cigar City in Tampa and try to get some of their rare beers when they come out. Not everyone can get Cigar City so get a hold of some of their rarer stuff and you can easily trade for almost anything. Friend them on facebook. They usually let you know when they release beers.

Also Funky Budda seems to be on the rise over in Ft.Lauderdale. Never been there but I keep hearing their name pop up and I have a feel they will only get more popular.

Now, I had two of the 3 beers you mentioned - Heady and Pliny. Pliny imo is WAY above any other IPA out there, double or not. I can drink that all day. Heady was good but not as good as people make it out to be. Just my opinion though. I would also add Hoppsocusioner. Had it on a a few months ago and couldn't get enough of it.

Well, yes, I think you can only get Heady Topper if you're up there in VT, on Thursday, and yes it is extraordinary; and I did have Pliny while in CA and it was extraordinary, but so were some others. I like Dirtwolf and get it all the time; but for variety there is Nugget Nectar, not quite as bold but wonderful flavor; and Founder's Centennial IPA, and their Red's Rye; and Green Flash, West Coast IPA. At least those you can buy back East. One of the best I've ever had was at the Bruery in Orange, CA. It was only available as draft, guaranteeing that it is fresh. The store closed, but the brewery is doing fine. Like so many places, you have to go to the source to sample the best there is.

My bad. I have had Dirt Wolf. Really liked it. Thanks for the offer anyway.
