I am going to Ashville for vacation tomorrow and I was wondering what you would consider the top 5 beers from the area.

Other than trying to hit the good local beers, any other beer tips out there?

drive to boone, see the nc countryside, and hit the best bottle shop in the western nc area.

I would strongly suggest hitting up Wicked Weed for Freak Double IPA but most of the breweries in Asheville have some nice offerings.

Plop yourself downstairs at Wicked Weed for a few hours and find a ride home.

There's some interesting places in Asheville, but Wicked Weed is definitely the one place you need to be sure to hit. Also, avoid Lexington Avenue Brewery (LAB) like the plague.

    top 5 beers...
1: one of the Green Man sour or wild beers
    2-5: something else

other tips? There's much more to Asheville than Wicked Weed - do it all.

IMO, lame beer and lame atmosphere

5 things to do in Asheville:
    1. Wedge Brewery. Drink Iron Rail.
    2. LAB--beer is decent but try the venison nachos. Then go to the Thirsty Monk and have 3+ things off the tap.
    3. Eat breakfast at Over Easy, apollo flame for lunch, salas or Baileys downtown for dinner.
    4. Go to Pisgah
    5. Repeat 1-4

This is basically what I was going to say. Pretty much the definition of mediocrity.

Wicked Weed and Wedge are my favorite breweries. I really like Wicked Weed Freak DIPA and Wedge Iron Rail IPA. Also like Thirsty Monk.

So many great beers at Wicked Weed, which would be my first/last stop. Thirsty Monk & Green Man as well. Oskar Blues in Brevard if you have the time. There's also a new brewery that I've heard good things about - Burial Brewing.

The Wedge - awesome beer, best atmosphere at night.
Green Man - awesome beer, has dart boards
    Pisgah - awesome beer, relaxing

Try just as much food in Asheville as you do beer! Everything is made from ingredients "from the farm down the street".

Wicked Weed wasn't there yet when I made the journey :-(

Was just in AVL over the weekend. Sitting at Wicked Weed for hours sadly didn't fit my schedule. Had 2 excellent meals: White Duck Taco and Seven Sows Bourbon & Larder. Both were pretty reasonable, too. The fried chicken skins at Seven Sows were so good.
Wicked Weed doesn't distribute, so do plan a stop there.

Anybody been to Burial yet? I'm going to try and swing by in a few weeks. Looks interesting...

My buddy just went and brought us back some stickers. He said it was really solid, and worth checking out.

I wouldn't waste my time going to the lab. My favorites are Wicked Weed, The Wedge, Green Man, and Pisgah. Also, Thirsty Monk as mentioned. Check out Early Girl Eatery for breakfast.

Bruisin Ales isn't even the best shop in the Asheville area...
I'd recommend Appalachian Vintner (cheaper prices than Bruisin Ales)
