Too bad more BAs can't try fresh Australian and Kiwi beer.

Also, too bad most BAs are American.

But it isn't to do with ratings. You don't rate the best country to live in on the basis of how many millionaires live there but on what life is like in general.Brewing much of the best beer doesn't automatically make you the best beer country.
Is a land where 94% of all beer is macro lager (US) a better beer country than one where 74% is macro lager(UK)? Or one where you may have to travel a considerable distance to find a decent beer a better beer country than one in which the population density is so great that wherever you are you are just minutes away from a good outlet?
The US has made enormous strides and is producing a lot of great beers and has to be admired for this. But history and geography work against any claim of being the best beer country. History because of the stranglehold still held by the megabrewers and geography because of the distances involved and the vast sparsely populated areas.
Comparing country with country is like comparing bananas with apples.Belgium has 940 inhabitants per square mile , the UK 660 , Germany 583 and the US 88.

Which specific Brown Ales would that be from Britain? I struggle to think of more than half a dozen that are still brewed. NEwcastlr Brown aside, the style is nearly dead in the UK.

    Agree.

The Biggest problem with Italian Craft are the prices. Bottles are always beutifull, but sometimes you just get basic pale lager or almost as good wit as Hoegaarden is, when buy those really expensive bottles. However, some of those could be really good.

Yeah, actually, I was just joking but I think you might be right. There's an article about the "microwbrew culture" in North Korea in Wired, believe it or not.

Really. Lots of styles started and perfected in UK are pretty popular here, maybe more popular than in UK. Does that mean UK is not the greatest beer country?

Plenty of great brown ales here, though, lots and lots, flavored, non flavored, hoppy, not hoppy, Imperial, sessions. In fact, USA has other styles enjoyed widely here, hardly brewed in their homelands. Berliner Weisse comes to mind. In fact we have more styles done more ways than do all the other countries listed by folks. By far. Does that make us best?

    Or are these factors irrelevant?

Brown Ale was an archetypal old man's drink when I was younger. It's died out with its customers.

I wonder about the authenticity of US-brewed Berliner Weisse. But can't really comment as I've not had one yet.

For me, it's not about how many crazy variations on styles there are that matters. It's about how much I want to drink the beers that there are.

It's too bad that a lot of Australian's can't try fresh Australian beer! Not to knock Australian beer but is it the lack of refrigeration at the retail level or the lack of turnover leaving stuff on the shelves too long. I don't know.

It would be nice to see more Australians on the site.

Perhaps we will have to change the name of Berliner Weisse to suit our versions, though just had one from California I recommend

as it tastes like descriptions of the classics I have read, despite it being hardly classic in design. Night Shift Everweisse, OTOH, tasted liked beer soda to me. One of our locals makes two yummy varieties that I would love to sit and share and discuss with you sometime.

I agree the prices are off putting and at times you can find some comparable ones at a lower price. And as you know there is ones you can not find, because they are they ones using ingredients no one would ever think of! Gentian Root and myrrh come to mind! :grinning:
