Golden Road? really? why are people mentioning this place?

It's average at best and it never moves off the shelves.

Probably Lagunitas but several could take its spot (not been to Society yet, but I hear good things. Love Beachwood, Bootleggers, Port/LA etc etc)

Not going to put the first 4 in any order because at any given time visiting any one of these places makes me very happy.

Heal the Bay is by far GR's best IPA. Its still a top 20. Point the Way has moved up from top 50 to top 40. Still has a way to go. Maybe they should call it "Still A Way to Go" IPA

Heal the Bay was the biggest surprise for me at the FW fest. I fully expected it to suck and it's quite good.

Picking the top 5 California breweries reminds me of an old Bill Swerski's Superfans skit on SNL, in which they did a Jeopardy like game and asked the question "Ditka vs. Bulls". Chris Farley's character called such a matchup a horrible tragedy and stated that all the great nations of the earth should band together to prevent such a competition from ever taking place.

No, just poking fun (I can't make it down there on Labor Day, so didn't try). I sure as shit shorted all my Nexternal shares though.

In no particular order (although this changes in my mind from month to month based on what I have been drinking):

    Bruery
    Societe
    Almanac
    AleSmith
    Ballast Point

Maybe the people are being sarcastic. Or perhaps they, like myself, enjoy the brewery and love the beer.

We are CA, because of the size we get to name our top 10. We aren't Vermont or Iowa ffs...

Is Almanac the next "next thing"?

The last three or four beers they've put out have been excellent, IMHO.
