A similar thread may be out there already, but a buddy of mine and I were discussing TC metro beers and we named our three favorite beers brewed in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.

Rules (arbitrary, I know, but who cares this is just for fun) are that it could be any beer crafted in the Metro, but emphasis on beer not year (so Darkness '10, '11, '12 are not separate beers; all years Darkness is Darkness for this particular exercise). Specialties, Seasonals, and variations/infusions are allowed.

    My top three:
    1. Abrasive
    2. Russian Roullette
    3. Lunker

    Go...

    I'm actually a little emotional because I know I can't have Abrasive for another 5 months.:slight_frown:

Masala was definitely on the honorable mention list.

Yes! I was wondering if anybody was going to name Let It Ride. My buddy had it in his top three as well. God that is such a good IPA.

Top three, that's pretty hard; a lot of variables.

    1) Abrasive (it's really just that good)
    2) Furious (world class, and really helped put our city on the map)
    3) Saga (the availability, the price, the 12-pack format: hard to beat)
Honorable mention: A tie between Twisted Trace and Pentagram (easily my two favorite BA offerings, and I think both can hold their own against the big-boys)

I had one last night, and am debating on picking up another 4 pk of the 3-4 canning.

    Yeah - I think it's still at about 75-80%.
And 80% of amazing is better than just about anything else out there right now - IMO.

Sagá. Masala Mama. Little Barley Bitter. My favourite readily available MSP beers. Seasonaly I like Darkness, Summit Summer Ale and Rauch Fest from Harriet...Maibock from Summit may be a tie for third. All others aside and even though we will probably never see a bottle of it again, Summit Gold Soverign is perhaps my all time favourite Mn brewed beer. Piper's Pride from Sherlock's Home is #2 on my gone but not forgotten Mn brewed beer list. I want a time machine, and a hover board. Doc Brown was full of shit.

I always have trouble ddisconnecting price from the equation, so beers like pentagram are out. I am going through an odd cycle of cravings right now. so my controversial choices as my favorite msp beers are-

pour decisions salinity/acerbity (really digging sour right now, andthe sour German wheats in particular. these beers are the only local options that fit the bill, although they are both very tasty IMO. I did both because I haven't decided which I like better)

Harriett woden weizen- best hefe I've had hands down, I love a great hefe in the summer
    l
masala- the original nationally known msp beer, before surly this was the only real must try beer for visitors. it's been around forever, but still fantastic and still worth seeking out.

    Mango Momma

People can debate the best, but those are my favorites that I make an effort to drink. My one beer wish would be Town Hall offering Mango Momma in growlers one week a year.

Keep your eyes on the TH website, they do in fact offer Mango Mama growlers one time each year. I believe it's their anniversary week, usually the week leading up to Darkness Day.

I remember that last fall, I think it was mid week and gone in a day. Taking a personal day to get a growler would be a new level of beer dedication for me. I love it though. My wife and a buddy both dislike the syrupy texture.
