1. Surly Darkness - Bourbon Barrel Aged with Vanilla Beans. This beer really challenged my long standing notions about just how good a beer can be. I rated regular Darkness a perfect 5 when it first came out. Every release since I've looked for anything that would oblige me to adjust that score, and keep finding verification that it truly is a perfect beer. Bourbon Barrel Aged with Vanilla Beans Darkness was beyond perfect. It was infinitely great.

2. Harriet Woden Weizen. Given the option of either drinking a good fresh hefeweizen or any other style of beer, I'll choose the hefe nine times out of ten. Woden Weizen reminds me of some of the best beers I drank while I lived in Germany.

3. Town Hall Three Hour Tour. I almost never drink more than one of the same beer when I am at a bar. When Three Hour Tour is on tap it is all I drink.

It's actually pretty tough to crank out a top 3, considering all of the great brew coming out of the Twin Cities lately.

This is really difficult. I'd love to break it down into style categories to recognize more brews, or year-round/seasonal, and I'd probably have to have a separate Surly list because it isn't really fair from my point of view...what the hell. 2 lists.
