Not one started yet so figured great time for first thread.

3 new term oils made from Mostra coffee on tap as well as a mostra ghost bear (espresso) and vanilla stout made specifically for mostras 6th Anniversary. All great beers not advertised right now

Legitimate question: is there a good reason they are working with Mostra? i’m Not on any coffee forums, but I have never seen Mostra ever mentioned except with a couple breweries in California. Seems like TG could work with someone much more local and engender more affection than choosing Mostra because Fifty fifty, Horus, or others have, even with the Horus collab.

Not sure. They’ve been using them for years, mostra has used KBBS barrels for craft coffee and I believe assassin barrels if I remember correctly. Could just be because they are a top notch coffee company. Decorah has a very solid coffee company in impact started in 2015. I have seen them post over the last 3 years on twitter about receiving beans from coffee from them

Did not know that they had used Mostra in the past. I wonder if they always have. I am not sure when the first KBBS was released, but that would have to be near the opening or before if this is their 6th anniversary. First Assassin was...2012 or 2013, right? Gold was 2014, and both yellow and red predated, although I can’t recall if yellow and red were same release, just different wax, or different releases.

First batch was in 2013. 2012 for Assassin. I know they have used Mostra sine at least 2014, and I was always under the impression they were also used for the first MD.

Don't want to stereotype all Iowans, but for the most part I really don't think there is a cultural center for coffee in Iowa and don't think Iowans give af about artisanal coffee. Sure there are other Midwestern touchpoints they could have utilized but local and coffee scene just don't strike me as a thing in Iowa.

I was told they used beans from Jumpy Monkey coffee for Mornin Delight. Specifically the "Good Morning blend" beans. Maybe that's changed since 2014 or was bad info.

Spot on, as someone who use to live right across the Mississippi river from Iowa. Decorah is the odd man out in most of IA from my experience. This started with the Seed Savers being near by, the Coop, TG, and then Pulpit.

Except in Davenport they have a top roaster in Red Band coffee but for the rest of it I agree

Still strikes me as wierd that Mostra got picked at some point. Would love to know how/why. There are a million other producers. If they really started using them at the start of Mostra opening, there has to be some other connection. If they just started recently, then I have no doubt it’s related to various beers that have used their beans.

    Thanks for everyone’s Input.

Just looked at mostra’s website and they’ve worked with a ton of brewery’s including trillium, 3 Floyd’s, warpig, j Wakefield, 3 sons, cycle, Weldworks, cigar city to name those known not near SD. Looks like they have just done assassin coffee 2018(which was phenomenal) and term oils variants. This is according to their website.

    Very wrong.

There's no one focal point, but you're wrong in your assessment. Visit Des Moines sometime.

Now THAT makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for digging that up. It is appreciated.

Iowa, Des Moines in particular, has a surprising number of third wave roasters and coffee shops. You’re off on this one.

How much was stout Hawks on site? It's $40-45/bottle before tax in the twin cities.

$40. And worth everybody's reaction who's sipping it as you tell them you paid that much for that lousy beer.

"Is that guy rich that he spent $40 on a bottle of beer?".

"No hunny, just another beer moron".
