Honestly not trying to be judgmental but what is it about an IPA @ 7.8% that isn't appealing? I don't even feel like 7.8 is that strong, it's in the middle. I see a lot of them at 5-6 but also see quite a few, especially the doubles/triples at 9.5-10.

Also, TG stouts are generally in the 12-16% range so I don't know, maybe I'm missing something here. I will say that the DDH King Sue is one of my absolute favorite IPAs.

I think for a lot of people (and I would be included in this), especially those with kids, an 8% beer is right at that cusp of feeling “fine-ish” with 12oz at dinner or “oh, I am definitely a little tipsy” with a 16oz pounder.

I rarely drink when my daughter is still awake, but if I do it is usually while cooking and/or around dinner. I almost exclusively limit it to (1) lager, because even if it is a pint, I’m fine. (This is all at home, not considering driving.) Somewhere around that 8% mark is where the 12-16oz mark makes a big difference for a lot of people. There have been a number of threads in the general forum about this over the years as well. Most people seem to favor the 6.2-7.2 ABV range for IPAs.

Didn’t mean to bring format into this, but personally I prefer smaller formats and I think it is a factor for people with higher ABV, especially with kids. 8% isn’t high in the sense that 11-18% is high, but at 8% I basically do NOT want 2 pounders, but there are days I would be fine with 2-12oz cans.

I like to drink 2-3 beers rather than take tiny sips of a stronger beer. Can't do that with 2-3 16oz King Sues. It's not even so much as it gets me minorly buzzed, but rather the fact that it affects my sleep. Couple that with a random wake up call or two at night for our 7 month old, that makes for a pretty crappy morning the next day. A few Spotted Cows or even Pseudo Sues and it's all good.

I have no kids so the middle abv is fine for me. But I get it if you have real responsibilities and whatnot. I usually limit myself to 3 beers a night on weekends as a max. If I have 3 double IPAs from 4pm to 11pm when I go to bed, I have zero negative effects. No sleep issues. No hangover. It’s the sours that kill me. Give me one sour and a slice of pizza and I have heartburn all night if I don’t plan properly

So the Morning Delight release was something special. Not only was the MD24 absolutely delicious, but we had an option to buy an Assassin from 2022-2024. And since I’m a Brewers Reserve member, got to pick up a KBBS 2023.

Incredible bottles were available for onsite as well including: KBBS Reserve, Double Barrel Assassin, Shadow Raptor, Rye Double Barrel Assassin

    What a day!!

When was the release? I was surprised I was able to buy Morning Delight bottles yesterday.

Is Stout Stock happening this year? I have a friend who really wants to try KBBS and we're trying to decide which event to try for. I seem to remember Stout Stock always having KBBS and a better overall selection but I don’t see any info for it.

No Stout Stock day this year unfortunately!! Was looking forward to it.

KBBS Lottery begins Thursday. If you don’t win a bottle, you could still go to the KBBS event and have it on tap.

Did anyone get an email for the KBBS release? Those are (were?) supposed to go out today.

No email so I lost. Thankfully I’ll still get my members bottle. TBH, I think the members only allotments have made it significantly more difficult to win the lotteries.

I had XV last night. That was a solid experience. Really nice beer.

2024 KBBS is fantastic as usual. They offered a few vintage years to pick from for an additional bottle, as well as Morning Delight and the members bottle. They had 18-24 (no 2019) on tap for lottery winners in the brewery
The member party last night only offered pours of 2024 and the member bottle (which was also excellent). Some seemed upset about this. But the bottle sharing was mind blowing. People brought amazing beers from all over and were incredibly generous to strangers (new beer friends).
The craft beer scene has changed over the last several years, but the spirit at last nights bottle share was incredible. And beautiful weather in Decorah made for a great weekend.

I have occasionally received feedback that my stout member oddly does.
