True, this will still be a big day for TG. I wonder if their ultimate goal is to have a MD Day at the new location, similar to Darkness Day or Dark Lord Day. Sell a bunch of beer and merch and have a grand ole time.

I do not, but I would have a hard time believing it's substantially different. I have no trouble believing that BPT is cheaper.

I guess the answer to why not is twofold: 1) it's clearly a poor experience for your customers. 2) causing bad feeling among your customer base could be bad business in the long run.

    2) might never come to pass. The reality is they make such good beer and have such a loyal customer base that even if there is a negative effect, it's negligible or not even detectable.

If and until the number of options for beer on TG's level are plentiful enough to provide real competition there's only so much motivation to find The Best Solution. How much effort do they want to spend to avoid a certain quantity/pitch of complaint? My only point here was that I think for very minimal effort they could have found a far superior option. But to your point, and to be fair, maybe they didn't spend that effort, maybe they found that option but thought a small amount of near term profit was more valuable than providing a better customer experience, maybe someone had a bad experience with Eventbrite once and they foreswore it as an option, or maybe the subscribe to the "any press is good press" axiom. We, or at least I, certainly don't have the full picture. That said, the outcome was entirely predictable and indeed was predicted, so if their intent was to have a smooth, on-line sale, they failed to make a good decision somewhere along the way.

I totally get you. To your point, those are two totally separate things. The style of sale will of course cater to different segments of their audience. Within a different style of sale, you can choose better/worse options to make that sale go smoother.

BPT made $585 in fees and TG made $2500 just for people to sign up.

The tickets sold out with minimal effort on the behalf of TG employees - no complicated/manual sifting through emails or lottery system.

All-in-all, this seems like a great option for them to use again. For the rest of us, probably not so much.

Still waiting to hear on if Mug Club is getting any allotment this year. It's worrisome since last year an email was sent out to MC before the sign up last year.

Their best solution is to make shitty beer. Done and done.

Physical tickets are getting shipped out - someone has to pay for those + postage. I'd guess that is coming out of the $5 + fees price.

I don't think there is going to be an allotment for Mug Club - TG had a tweet yesterday that said "Nope. Maybe Assassin." in response to a tweet that has now been deleted that I THINK was asking about Mug Club allocations.

does anybody know if there will be a way to transfer the ticket if you are unable to go for some reason?

The fact that tickets were only $5 plus a dollar and change for fees was not a deterrent for anyone to try and get tickets even if they are unlikely to actually go.

I'm not really excited for this news, but I think it might have been a response to this:

Is there a reason why they don't just charge the $100 up front? I feel like that would deter people who aren't actually dedicated to going. Plus, if they still kept the no transfer policy then if someone actually didn't come they would make twice the money. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Thats my thought as well. I gotta assume there will be peope who need to drop out for one reason or another. They should be ableto transfer their allocation if they cant make it

Because then they would have to give uncle sam a true cut of the 50k they are going to make in cash.

DLD tickets were 200 up front, Eventbrite still struggled to handle everyone trying to get tickets. I think next time they should just do a lottery. Then people won't be mad that they spent an hour trying to get a ticket.

The hassle of refunds or people issuing chargebacks when they realize they can't make it.
