Does TG use a counter pressure filling system?

My parents are taking a trip from Ohio to Colorado and on the way they stopped in Decorah as my Dad is a Luther College graduate. I asked them to stop at TG for me and gave them a few beers to get if they had them. PseudoSue is one of them and apparently was only available in growlers when they stopped yesterday. My mom went ahead and got me a growler of it but they aren't going to be back in Ohio until Tuesday the 21st. Apparently the TG employee told her the growler should be good for 2 weeks if kept cold and unopened but I'm a bit nervous. Think it will last another week +?

They do not counter pressure fill. You will want to drink it soon after they get back. I usually drink their growlers after a day or two, so I don't know how it holds up.

Thanks for the reply although that's not really what I was hoping the reply would be. lol

They also sell clear growlers and they prefer to fill those as its "easier to see." So, I'll hope that they got you an amber one.

They do a good job at bottom filling... Should be good for 5-7 days without issues

I've had TG growlers over a week old on multiple occassions (possible even 2 weeks old) and had no problems.

I have also drank them at a week (maybe even a bit more) and they were fine.

I drank a growler of Sue that had been sitting in my beer fridge for 3 weeks on Saturday and it tasted great.

Well that's more promising. Regardless, I'm excited to try Sue for the first time.

I myself will be very interested in how the beer holds up. Please let us all know. At our taproom we always offer clear or amber growlers, plastic or metal lid. And soon we hope to be adding a new plastic growler for the places glass should not go. We are testing it now and hope to have it ready for you soon.

Just a few short weeks ago, we spent a Saturday morning with all staffers going over proper growler fills to maximize the life of the beer.

    Cheers,

    Clark

There was a TG growler in my fridge that was a little over a week old and my wife kept checking my pulse

If they fill to the top just crank that cap and wrap it with electrical tape. Keep it cool and dark and it will last at least 4 weeks unopened. If they don't fill to the top you'll get a tiny bit of carbon dioxide released in there, but it won't go flat unless you loose the cap or open it and drink a few.

Growlers filled to the cap & treated properly (solid sealing cap/swing top + electrical tape) will stay for a surprisingly long time.

I've traded for TG growlers three times and not one has arrived in drinkable condition. Through no fault of shipper either. Twist caps just don't travel well. Never had a problem shipping with flip tops/swing tops. Not a knock on TG, just reality of shipping twist tops.

I've flown successfully multiple times with twist caps. Bottom filled all the way to the cap, twisted a few extra times and then electrical taped to my heart's content. They have arrived in drinkable condition, although I do recommend drinking shipped growlers as quickly as possible.

If the shipper isn't double checking the tightness of the caps or TG isn't filling all the way to the cap, you might have some issues.

I've sent TG growlers filled off site countless times across the United States, sometimes traveling 5+ days and they have arrived in pristine condition. Check WhatCheers on youtube for his PseudoSue review. He says that the growler I sent him was even better than the bottle which I sent out sooner than the growler.

Make sure the cap is tight, tape er up to be save and you'll be fine.

Just texted my parents to crank the cap down and put some electrical tape on it. Fingers crossed. Thanks everyone.

Got the growler yesterday and cracked it right away. Filled on 10/11 and opened on 10/20. It's really good but from reading reviews I do think it's lost a bit. I picked up a decent aroma but not very strong. Taste was very good tropical fruits. Mouthfeel is where I feel it had lost the most. It poured with very little head and on the mouth lacked some carbonation. I really have nothing to compare it to other than reviews on BA. Still a phenomenal beer and I'm glad to have tried it but the trip from Iowa to Colorado and back to Ohio may have taken a little bit out of it.

A friend of mine drove from MN to Philly, stopped by TG and brought me 2x Sue, 1x Golden Nugget, 1x Intergalactic ... all 64oz twist caps. I traded 1 Sue away and drank the other 3 over a span of 2 weeks, but each was a disappointment. For some reason, the mouthfeel was very "airy". Not sure how else to describe it, but the carbonation was all there too, so it wasn't for the lack of carb. When I opened the Intergalactic, my friend's wife had a few sips and said it "tasted like nothing". As a HUGE fan of Sue and have had it multiple times, the flavor from the Sue growler was far off from the punch packing mango from bottles. @cistercian12 got one of my Sue and he said it was really off from the Sue bottle he remembered.

I wonder if someone can test drinking at the taproom, fill a couple of growlers of the same beer, drink one 1 or 2 days later, then another 7-10 days later and see if there is significant loss of flavor. Maybe TG growlers don't travel well. As a reference point, I've received multiple 64oz screw cap growlers from Alpine (Bad Boy, Keene Idea, and Hoppy Birthday) and every single one of them was ridiculously delicious. I don't know if Alpine counter-pressure filled theirs though.

Thanks for the follow up! I gave somebody a growler of my homebrew (filled from keg) and he waited 1.5 weeks to drink it. He said it was still really good. But I always wondered if he knew what he was talking about, or if he was just being polite!
