From a chat with Mike after the brewhub expansion.

You do if you still wanna have your bombers of Sue fly off the shelf. Also its not the brand that is valuable, it's the quality of the beer that is... But this is simply my opinion.

I have isolated Sue yeast a few times, and have had good results but never have gotten close to Decorah Sue.
I don't think TG relies on just one yeast either.

Well Treehouse is naturally carbonating their hoppy beers, Hill Farmstead does as well. It could be accomplished in the Bright tank or bottles. Adding additional yeast will eliminate all excess O2 and help the stability of the Hop aroma and flavor. I just get that soft mouthfeel from some TG bombers that I associate with naturally carbonated beers.

You specifically said "bottle conditioning" not capping fermentors to naturally carbonate. You even mentioned a bottle conditioning yeast. C'mon...

They're doing more than capping their fermentors, I know the difference.

LOL, way to move the goal posts again. Glad you have everyone's processes worked out without concrete evidence. Good job.

OK, so they have (according to your view) maintained the value of pseudoSue bombers by canning something else in Florida and calling it pseudoSue.

So, the market is conditioned to seek after real pseduoSue in bombers (can something called "pseudo" ever be considered "real"... but I digress...) and buy pseudoSue in cans only if all they want is a middle of the pack pale ale for less money.

Now, they want to start canning the genuine pseudoSue out of Decorah.

    Oops! :flushed:

I'm sure Mike's just out divulging marketing and trade secrets in the process of casual chats with fan boys.

This thread never fails to entertain.

You contradict yourself in the same post, sometimes within two sentences. You are probably trolling, so I'll be brief.

You posit that TG purposefully disadvantaged the production of their flagship beer, and then go on to say "its not the brand that is valuable, it's the quality of the beer".

You claim to have brewed with yeast isolated from a bottle of Sue, that beer made with this isolated yeast was good but not "close to Decorah Sue", and yet one of your hypotheses is FL Sue is off because TG didn't tell them the right yeast to use. Does that make any sense to you?

Does anyone have a list of places that had the MD tappings last year?

They didn't do that for MD. You're thinking of Assassin on tap for the release earlier this year. I think there were 5 venues. Rubaiyat and Lacrosse are done already. That leaves the Decorah options of C&C and T-Bocks and one other place not in Decorah.

Safe House Saloon in Lansing is selling tickets.

Safe House Saloon is selling tickets for pours of Mornin Delight on site and online at
    eventbrite.com/e/safe-house-s….

I think Good Fellas in Waukon had Assassin as well. Not sure if they are doing anything for MD though.

I have the exact same situation with my wife. Kind of sucks, but at least we will both be going.

Anybody know about the pattern of King Sue releases? Wondering when I might see it again on shelves in the TC. Thx

Yep, in January (for Assassin) it was: Rubaiyat, T-Bocks and C&C in Decorah + Safe House in Lansing.
-Rubaiyat is doing an event Friday night, it it's not sold out yet - it's close. Details via fb.
-Safe House in Lansing is doing a ticketed MD pour. Bit of a drive from Decorah, but a beautiful one. Like @Ristaccia noted - Good amount of tickets still available. And you can redeem them on Sunday!

-We'll be getting a keg of MD at Courtyard & Cellar again. I'm assuming T-Bocks will as well, but can't be certain. Either way, we are the stragglers when it comes to announcing details..

Guessing T-Bocks will tap Saturday morning ala Assassin. Pure guess, tho. They should announce soon.
As far as C&C goes - we're close to finalizing details. We'll be tapping MD Friday night. One pour pp, no advance tickets this go round. I'll post exact keg tap timing on that as soon as it's locked down.

    Saturday bottle share!
10am-6pm-ish. (Open regular hours after that) Same format as the last two C&C shares - which have been fairly epic.
TG, Pulpit and some other fun stuff on tap. Finalizing that list still...
As @DriftlessFarmer predicted, Forager will be on hand again. They're bringing some new things - things that sound damn good. (Basically they'll be previewing some of the releases that will be available at Foragerfest in September - but we're locking down final details still.) Psyched about that. I know, for many who were coming from far away, their beers were some of the surprises of Assassin day weekend.

@YvesB already got a spreadsheet going if anyone want to use it for coordinating C&C bottles: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bKnW353ltINl7M_8fBlzJjl7r9su71HvAMR21dADSaw/edit?usp=sharing

I also made a FB page for the bottle share if folks want to coordinate there. Link here.

    Looking forward to it!

I know its a Super 8 but its the only thing available in Decorah. Will I be grossed out or is it fairly clean?
