Yeah, but you also pay a, what, $5.00 ATM surcharge fee?

San Diego toronado takes credit card. It's also not dirty like the sf one.

My credit union refunds all fees. Realize that's not the case for everyone.

Which is why I'm hoping for a version with character, like the SF location, and not a cold, generic corporate chain feeling, like SD.

If it's taking over Mutiny Hall, they're gonna have to let homeless drifters defile and destroy that place for months to give it some unsanitary character.

Or they can save some time and take over a place like the Waterwheel.

Corporate chain? The SD location is far superior. Its practically the same layout as the sf one, yet not overly cramped and doesn't smell like urine. Their attitude is also quite poor. Plus the other options around the SD location are far superior.

Everyone should accept cc. I can buy girl scout cookies with cc or stuff at the farmers market. This is 2014 in America for Christ's sake.

Different stokes and all that. I personally wouldn't describe the SD location as having a corporate chain vibe, but maybe in comparison to the SF version, I can see how someone could say that.

I've only been to the SD version once, but I've been to the SF version many times. I've never had bad service at the SF version, I've never had any cleanliness issues, and personally, I think the place has a lot of character (which IMHO, the SD version does not). Given a choice, I would take the SF version over the SD version every time, at least based on my one visit to the SD Toronado.

I do agree with your comment about credit cards though. It's one of things I don't like about the Apex as well.

I probably am a bit biased since I used to live in SD, but I have been to the SF location probably about 10 times now and the SD probably 40 times. I go to SF at least once a year, and the last few times, I have not gone back to Toronado. Just too many poor things about the place and too many bad experiences. I only times I've liked it is at 2 pm on a weekday when you can have a conversation with friends without yelling. The beer list is hard to pass up, which is why I put up with their bullshit from time to time (although the SD location always has a few Alpine offerings on tap in addition to the SF Toronado mainstays of Pliny or Blind Pig). Plus the back patio at the SD location is just fantastic on a nice sunny SoCal afternoon.

    Anyways, I will take this

Unless they light Mutiny Hall on fire and then slap stickers all over the place once the flames subside, I've got a feeling that Toronado Seattle will be like the San Diego location.

I hope they have Cable Car. To go. And not for shitty prices.

:-) This just shows me how different you and I are. Taking a look at those two pictures, I can't believe you prefer the SD location.

Gonna be weird having a Toronado without Russian River offerings...

Since I rarely use plastic under $100, and almost never under $50, the only difference accepting vs not accepting plastic is time. It takes much longer to process a plastic transaction than a cash one, thus holding up lines/service.

:-) I get reward credits for using my card, so I tend to use it for everything. I generally won't use it for purchases under $5, but that's never a concern when I go to a beer bar... even one that has prices as good as what you'll find at the SF Toronado.

It takes all of 15 seconds to pay for a beer with a credit card at Fremont or Reuben's or The Woods using Square.

I'm with you there. I'm claustrophobic as hell and generally hate crowds.

First photo, an awesome everning talking to people, having some brews, enjoying life and beer.

Second photo, pissed off, getting agitated and at some point probably swinging at some DB. If I could even handle being in the place for more than 5 seconds.

I like character but I abhor crowds. My misanthropy will always push me to a slightly more sterile place without lines beers being equal.

What will prohibit them from having Russian River? I have to imagine there's a reason the owner is opening a Toronado instead of a beer bar under some other name. Why license / franchise / partner (anyone know any details of how this is actually connected to Toronado ... or how the other locations are connected?) an existing name rather than starting a new one or building off your other brands? I don't think the Toronado brand carries a ton of weight - if any - outside of a pretty small group of beer fans. Perhaps distribution is part of the deal?
