Hi, fellas it's my brothers birthday tomorrow and I'm planning on taking an Uber to Torrance from LA. I know there are a lot of great brewery I'm asking for a good order to save money on Uber, any help is appreciated.
If there is one you have to visit in Torrance, its Smog City for me. A ton of great stuff coming from them.
If you're going to Torrance you'll have Smog City, Monkish and the Dudes breweries all within walking distance from each other that should occupy your time well and if you're feeling like going to another close by brewery but require and uber then Phantom carriage is about a 10 min drive from smog city
Agreed. Cuddlebug is a really good sour - caught me by surprise. Didn't have all the crazy hype of all the new beers coming out but better than most! Being a torrance local - I think Smog city is the better of the 3 within walking distance.
Agreed. Do Mokish, Smog City, and Dudes. When I was down there I also did Beachwood BBQ at the end. It's a little ways off, but it's worth the trip and you can end there with dinner. That's what I did. Cheers.
The Dudes was one of the worst breweries I've been to. It's the Torrance version of Huntington Beach Brewing Company. I did the same South Bay trip a month ago and visited Phantom Carriage, Smog City, Monkish, and The Dudes. First three were solid.
As someone who spends quite a bit of time in Torrnace, I would recommend the following. Go to Smog City first, you can then walk to Monkish(5 minute walk) and you can take an Uber to Phantom Carriage and grab some food from their kitchen as well. As others have mentioned. I would pass on the Dudes and Absolution. I'm not really a fan of either of them.
IMO, Smog and Monkish are must visits, Phantom Carriage if you have the time and like sours, no need to visit Absolution or Dudes and El Segundo if you want to drive a bit out of the way. Pretty much what every other person has said in this thread.
But El Segundo or Three Weavers could be considered "on the way back" to Los Angeles and may not be as out of the way depending on where returning to. My personal trip would be - Phantom Carriage, Uber to Smog, Walk to Monkish, Uber to El Segundo, Uber to Three Weavers, go home. But you could also realistically Phantom Carriage, Smog, Monkish, Uber to Beachwood, ride the train back up to LA, and Uber home from a station
Do the three everyone's mentioned here, and maybe throw in a trip to King Harbor's Redondo Pier taproom and Naja's Place if you want to keep Uber costs down.
And for some additional bottles, Number One Liquor Mart's expansive fridge too. OP, how long are you planning for this thing? We seem to have a day set out for you now.
This thread makes you stop and think about how lucky we are out here in the South Bay. Pretty much no matter where you are, you are just a few minute drive from either a nice brewery or a nice bottle shop.
Truth. Just relocated down to Redondo from Santa Monica. Thought I had the area pretty square-rooted already in terms of beer. Not even close.
Definitely agree with Smog and Monkish. Beachwood, El Segundo, Phatom Carriage, and Three Weavers are worth the trip!
I would go to Strand before Three Weavers Dudes is skippable but worth checking out if you are on a bro drinking mission. Just don't use up too much intake space there
