cliffs: brewing 5-gal low ABV porter. brew process went great, but OG is 1.028, which is way too low (was shooting for 1.04x-ish according to directions. The beer'll still be OK, no?

How can I avoid this in the future?

    Thanks in advance, guys!

Extract kit? If so, here are the possibilities, either alone or in combination.

    1) The kit was short on extract
    2) Not all the extract made it into the kettle
    3) You topped off with water to more than 5 gallons
    4) You didn't mix the top-off water with the wort thoroughly before measuring the OG
    5) You measured the OG while the wort (and top off water) was still hot, and didn't adjust the reading for temperature.

Need more info. Recipe, procedure, temperature at which you took the OG reading, etc.

You may not be in any trouble at all. It's likely that there's a factor here that you just haven't discovered yet that will splain' it all to ya.

Post some more info and the expoits here will prolly learn ya something good :sunglasses:
