Hows the TW on west broad st? Going to be in the area this weekend and its right down the street from my hotel. as going to take beer w/ me but since its less than 2 miles from my hotel I was going to check it out unless its pretty boring. Do they carry Hardywood? And how is their Belgian section? Might stop by Mekong for lunch/dinner, do they have any beers on draft or just bottles?
Total is ok. I generally only go there when I want to do a mix-a-six of beers I hadn't tried before. you'll probably find a better Belgian selection at Corks and Kegs (not too far from where you'll be) I would think any of those shops would have some Hardywood but if you're in town just go to Hardywood directly (1-offs, randall, firkin friday, etc). go to Mekong at night.18+ draft lines plus bottles. don't wait at the receptionist to get a table, go to the very back where the bar is.
i will again echo ncaudle- TW is good for domestic singles (and they have Hardywood's current seasonal as well as their one year-round), but CnK kills them on Belgians. Whole Foods and Once Upon a Vine aren't that far away, either, and the former fills growlers with generally very good stuff. asking if Mekong has any beer on draft is like asking if dogs like to smell things. go before the dinner rush, sit at the bar, chat with the bartenders, and prepare to call a cab.
Agree with everything said already...Hit TW if you want some random bottles, but for Hardywood, just head straight to the brewery and grab a couple beers early. Then it is an absolute must to hit Mekong for dinner. Place has phenomenal food (try the wrap your own roll with beef and flat rice noodles), so chow down and grab a couple tulips of whatever harder to find Belgian Aun happens to be featuring.
Thanks...will prob hit C&K instead of TW didnt realize it was so close.....def hitting mekong too! Cant wait! Anybody been recently and have an idea of whats currently on draft?
Was there a couple weeks ago visiting my brother. Had several St. Louis Gueze Fond Traditions and a Saison de Pipaix. I'm sure its changed by now, but there's always solid stuff on draft, usually including Hardywood's latest release.
