I've seen a few LIFS pop up about helping raise awareness for some great causes. I figured this would be a good opportunity to post about something I am passionate about. On September 21 I will be participating in the Tour de Cure, a cycling event to benefit the American Diabetes Association. My father and I have lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 43 and 23 years respectively. I've been a runner most of life, primarily competing in 5Ks and 10Ks. Over the past couple years I have tried to challenge myself more and set goals to push myself to new limits. I’ve completed 2 Tough Mudders (3rd one will be in October), Muddy Buddy, ran my fastest 5 mile race this year (35:25 and finishing 426 out of 9046) and completed my first ½ marathon this year (1:44:31). I’m looking forward to my next challenge, my first 100 mile bike ride. I’ll be doing this with my girlfriend (our team name is In Gear for Beer). I feel like this will bring me one step closer and give me the confidence to fulfill one of my life goals and finish an Ironman. To help raise money for theADAI’d like to put a box together. For every $10 donated, you will receive one entry into a raffle to win the box ($20 = 2 entries, $30 = 3 and etc.). The box will contain the following: 1x 2012 Firestone Walker DDBA 1x 2013 Firestone Walker Sucaba 1x 2013 FirestoneWalkerParabola 1x Firestone Walker 16th Anniversary 1x Captain Lawrence Rosso e Marron Batch 4 Unofficial Bottles 1 x 2013 Firestone Walker DDBA (These haven’t hit NJ distribution yet, but I will throw one in when they arrive.) I’ll also throw in an IPA that is not distributed to the winner’s area (Sculpin, Flower Power or winner’s choice.) If you would like to donate, please follow this link and click on the red tab that says Donate to Robert: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?px=8885330&fr_id=8800&pg=personal In the Public Recognition Name or Personal Note field please put your BA name. If you want to leave it anonymous please BM me. I'll leave this open until September 20. I’ll videotape the drawing and put it on YouTube. This is open to everyone in the continental US. Thank you everyone for your support! Cheers!
We're a little over 3 weeks away from the event. I've raised $125 so far (only $20 for the LIF). Last Saturday we biked 64 miles. Here's the route we did: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/272663647 We dropped off our bikes at the shop for tuneups and will be picking them up today. This weekend will be a 70 mile ride and I'll post up the route once it's been finalized. Cheers and thank you for your support.
