Just looking for thoughts here from others who might have had similar experience. My package was shown delivered on FedEx website but there was no box outside when I checked. I was home all day and looked out literally 10 mins after the tracking said it was delivered. Highly highly doubt it was swiped off my porch. I live in super safe neighborhood and never had any issues ever before plus it started snowing pretty heavily today so doubt anyone was walking around plus there were no snow footprints coming or leaving my house, thus I don't even think FedEx ever came to my house. I walked around to nearby neighbor's houses and didn't see anything on their porches either. I called FedEx to report missing box and they verified my correct address. They asked what was inside box and i said I didn't know, it was a surprise box. They said they will investigate. Has this happened to anyone ever before? Should I be concerned if they find my box will they open to inspect contents? Biggest question I have, what can I expect as the outcome? Are these missing boxes usually found and returned or is there a good chance I'm prolly SOL?

While not the norm, this certainly isn't the first time it has happened. It might be that it was mistakenly scanned as delivered and will show up in a day or two, it might be that it was delivered to the wrong address (which would account for it being logged as delivered), and it might honestly be lost. No matter the reason, you pretty much resigned to waiting.

It started to snow pretty heavily today so I'm hoping the weather might somehow have played a factor in causing some confusion with the tracking and shipping delay? I'm hoping for a surprise Monday delivery...we'll see

This happened to me with FedEx last year, marked as delivered but the box never made it. Reviewed the security footage from my building two hours before and after the delivered time stamp and could not find any attempt at delivery. Closest I came to finding any indication that FedEx showed up was a FedEx truck whizzing by my building, it did not stop.

As I understand it, FedEx delivery guys/girls salary/compensation is tied to how many boxes they deliver an hour and sometimes they scan them as delivered to make quotas/their wants, obviously not delivering the boxes.

Went with the gift aka don't know what's in the box, but noted a dollar amount reflective of the beer lost.

I had a similar situation. FedEx marked as delivered and I reviewed my security footage at the delivery time. Turns out the driver gave the box to my neighbor (time on footage matches the tracking delivery time) according to my footage.

I knock on my neighbor's door that evening and they don't admit taking a box from FedEx earlier that day. I called FedEx to explain the situation and it reimbursed the shipper.

Update: Neighbor brought over my package this morning. FedEx delivered to wrong house. I assumed that was the case but didn't know which neighbor might have had it. Long story short, this is first time in 50+ deliveries that it happened which I should be happy about I suppose but sucks still cause fedex didn't do shit to help me during the past few days.

I live next to a multifamily house so I can't say for sure who in there took it. In any case, it wasn't returned even though I had video evidence it was misdelivered but the footage couldn't see who received it. FedEx even sent the driver back to try and sort it out to no avail and just took fault for it.

    Glad you got your box.

A couple of years ago in a BIF I had a box marked delivered but the recipient didn't have it. He caught the driver a couple of days later. The driver put the box inside an old car that was on the property because it was raining.

    Looking for advise

    Similar thing here.

The trade accepted was Flora BBRC for Ground State. We expanded with a couple cans.

I shipped the Flora, cans and a couple extras which arrived safely Saturday. The box shipped to me was marked as "Delivered. Left at front door" by FedEx yesterday. The problem is there was no box.

I checked my neighbor's house to see if it was left at her house by accident and it was not.

I told the shipper and he quickly contacted FedEx to file a claim. He has filed a claim and has talked to FedEx.

We will be waiting a few days to see if it turns up.

We started talking about what we would do if it does not turn up. He mentioned writing a check for the secondary value for the lost package. I mentioned splitting the cost of shipping to return to Flora.

We are both hoping the box shows up

    Thoughts?

I am very sorry that this happened to you.

I would love to try to provide some helpful feedback, but I'm not clear what you are asking for our thoughts on. The situation, the guy wanting to keep the flora and writing you a check? What specifically?

Am I out of line for asking for the bottle back?

Nope. I think that's 100% in your right.

This isn't ebay. Your sender is not "off the hook" because something went wrong with the package that was be sent to you.

You have every right to request the package back, and I think splitting the cost of the shipping is very fair.

I had a trade awhile back where the package I was receiving was taken by Fed Ex (trader was told his bottle broke, and the package was discarded). I contemplated asking him to send it back (and he also offered). It's more than fair.

I would suggest contacting the local FedEx location. The manager can ask the driver where he left the package

The sender has. FedEx is "investigating"

I'm sorry, but I disagree with this. Your box was damaged so it was the shipper's fault so you could ask for your stuff back. No questions there. In the case where the package is marked "delivered", it's at minimum a grey area and requires both sides to work out an amicable solution, which to me entails both sides taking a loss on the overall trade (taking approved claim refunds into account). While trust is essential, there's no way for the shipper to know if the recipient was truthful or not. Some areas have issues with package theft and the recipient didn't communicate that to the sender, who could require signature to before the box isn't left at the door. I'm no way accusing @7irondave of this, it's more of a matter of circumstance beyond the shipper's control that he has to recognize.

I had the exact same thing happened in one of my trades. The recipient was going to take the loss without my saying anything at all. I decided to gather to some replacement bottles and ship him a consolation box anyway. It wasn't going to be an identical replacement, but something about 1/2 the "value". This essentially equated to each side take 1/2 of the loss. Fortunately, 2 days later the box showed up. FedEx delivered it to a similar looking building a few blocks away. Ever since that experience, I explicitly mentioned in my profile (as I ask all my new trade partners to review my profile) my scope of responsibility and that my potential trade partners can ask me to specify "signature required".

That said, @7irondave's situation is slightly different in that the shipper already offered to pay for the bottle (probably because he assumed he'll get the claim money) so asking for the bottle back instead isn't completely unreasonable.

I'm not sure exactly to what you are disagreeing with. My eBay comment was referring to the fact that, apparently, once a package has been shipped, the seller is no longer responsible. Either eBay reimburses the buyer or the buyer is out of luck if there was anything wrong with the address given (or issue with "forwarding," even if it is the post office's fault). If that seems crazy, I agree, but I found this out after a recent package of mine got sorted into a wrong bin, and USPS had to forward it. Googling about information regarding this issue resulted in the information about eBay.

Regarding everything else, I was simply referring to OP having the right t ask for it back. I was not trying to say anything about them splitting costs Beyond splitting the cost of shipping. There's certainly a case for discussion, but I was not implicate others trying to suggest that the sole responsibility lies on the sender.
