Trade gone awry...

    So I had a trade set up with a user for some toppling goliath and alpine. After the trade was concluded and bottles were received, I only received two bottles after sending out 9. We didn't agree on amounts, however he did agree to send me an assassin and king sue when they hit shelves. Assassin has come and gone whereas king sue hasn't been released and I have not received any communication from him since. I have all of the messages to and from which I feel I have been more than generous during this lapse. Not to sure what to do here... Any suggestions?

    TG and Alpine? TG is pretty much IA/WI and Alpine is only CA? How does one get their hands on both with out trading then forwarding on or a lot of traveling. Anyhow, Assassin was pretty darn hard to come by, did he go silent after the release or before?

    agree on amounts next time and beware of too-good-to-be true pretrade promises from unknown traders.

    It would be helpful for both parties to discuss and agree on amounts. How long has it been since he got your box or had any communication with you? I also agree that it's odd for the dude to offer up Alpine and TG, and also say he gots you for an Assassin. What's this cat's name? I need to know more now!

    Can you explain this with more detail, please. You said that you didnt agree on amounts, but it sounds like you're disappointed with the amount you received. What exactly was the final agreement? What bottles were actually sent/received?

    Where you have an issue is if he did, in fact, promise you the Assassin and the King Sue as part of that deal. If you have messages showing him make that promise, please show them here and include his name. This would make him a candidate for bad trader.

    Communication between he and I has been hit or miss. I received his box of TG about two weeks ago, he received my alpine on the same day. His username is sportsmac4 and his trading reputation indicated that it would be viable. He imformed me that he would send me assassin but had yet to contact me when it hit shelves and i know its gone. He had a problem with the price but I told him I could pay half since he insisted assassin was expensive as well. There's no phone number, but I do have an email I can contact him with and have been persistent in this issue. Last message was on Friday and it was from me.

    So I'm at my desktop, I can explain a little more thoroughly. I was trading Alpine, he was sending me TG. Here is the messaging back and forth.
    ScaryHairy44: I have all three of those from a trip made yesterday. I'd be interested in some Toppling Goliath goodies if possible. Let me know, Max.

    Sportmac4:I am out at the moment after sending twelve bottles out Monday and Tuesday but I will try to grab some pseudo sue and golden nugget before the end of the week. The assassin isn't out yet, but I will send you a bottle when it does it shelves, same with the king sue.

    SH:Sweet man, I'll ship these bottles out whenever you want. My day off is tomorrow, so I can do it then or wait if you'd like. I've traded on here a couple of times but mainly on reddit, so if you need references or feel uneasy since I have none posted let me know. Do you want anything in specific other than alpine?

    SM:I am not that familiar so anything comparable, I can try to make a trip to Decorah later this week in case it doesn't hit the shelves around here before then. (Personal Information Deleted)

    SM:Maxwell, I got your UPS package today. Nothing was broken and every beer looks great! Thank you for the great extras! Can you go onto the trade tab and accept our trade so I can send you some great feedback? You are the man!

    SH:For sure man, hope you like all the extras!

    SH: Just got the package, thanks for the brews man.

    SH: Hey mitch, just curious about something. Were you anticipating on sending me any other brews later on when they get released? Or was the package I received the conclusion of the trade?

    SM: We had talked about doing something else for the king sue and assassin when they hit the shelves, it sounds like assassin is out and going for 30+ per bottle but I haven't heard anything on the king sue.

    SH: I didn't say that I'd ship again for those, and to be frankly honest you didn't send the most charitable package to begin with. The conversation made it sound like you would just send them.

    SM: Okay, I will try to get my hands on some King Sue when it comes out. Last I heard they were waiting on some label approval. As for the Assasin, I had no idea it was going to be over $30/bottle. Seems a bit steep to me.

    SH: It's all supply and demand with assassin, I'd give you half of the money for a bottle if that's what it takes, or just pay for as many as I can get.

    The last message was sent on August 5 on BA. Yes it is @sportmac4, my apologies. I sent Nelson, Pure, Duet, Almanac Dogpatch, Bottleworks XII, Supplication, and a few others. I trade frequently on here and reddit and lose track of which bottles I send to who but it was well over $100 worth of brews. My mistake was that we didn't officially agree on the amount. This is the conversation verbatim and I feel that it was agreed upon that he'd be sending me an assassin. Maybe I'm wrong? My original post was Ft: Alpine ISO: Mexican Cake and Gose. After he posted FT: TG ISO: Alpine I withdrew from mine and connected with him for his ISO to clear up any confusion.

    So maybe @sportmac4 didn't know what the assassin and the king sue would be trading for when he initially agreed to this trade???

    I'm sure everyone would love to hear from him here so we could get his side too...

    I have figured out that people who follow people are sometimes friends, that being said maybe @Hop-Droppen-Roll has spoken to @sportmac4 since Aug 5. Maybe he can provide some insight to where he is and any experience with him. I see @Hop-Droppen-Roll on here all the the time and he seems like a solid BA. @sportmac4 has not had any posts since late July.
    But @ScaryHairy44 always when finalizing a trade make sure you know what you are giving and what you are to receive, EX- so I'm sending you 5-MC, 3-ZD, and 1-VBDL, and you are sending me 1-assassin, and 7-KS. makes things clear for both sides. I also see he left you good feedback and you left him OK feedback. I would have held off on the feedback until i felt the trade was completed.
    Now to my observation it does look like from the messages he said he would send you the KS and assassin, then started to get cold feet at the end, maybe he got a better offer or didn't know the cost of said beer, whatever, still no excuse to screw you out of your beer. I hope everything works out OP.

    This looks like slow/poor communication issue. @sportmac4 has been a member here since 10/2011 and had 9 other trades with positive. Most importantly, he lists a website and his position that seems to be related to that website so I doubt he wants his rep to be ruined.

    Since you're waiting for 2 bottles and only Assassin came out and it doesn't need to be drank fresh, I can see that he may want to save on shipping and ship both when the King Sue comes out.

    Still, he should let you know through better communication of what's going on. Getting a phone # before sending your package out is a MUST. Not only FedEx/UPS wants a # just in case they need to contact the recipient, you have a direct way to reach the trader.

    Send him an email informing him of this thread. If you don't here back from him in a day, there is a number on http://www.citybrewery.com/ . See if you can get a hold of him there. Between being tagged on BA, email, and a call to where he may be working, he should respond. We can then go from there.

    A side note, I'm not sure why you left a feedback already if the trade has not been completed. Leaving a "neutral" feedback for someone and mentioning "no extras" is a sure way of telling others that you expect extras in trades, if no extras, you will leave neutral feedback instead of positive. Not a good way to gain future trade partners.

    The point has been made, but I'm going to say it again anyway - you HAVE TO come to a clear agreement at the end of any trade negotiations.

    Anyone who has traded with me can confirm that I always summarize the trade once we've agreed. Something like:

    "OK, I'm sending you beers 1,2,3,4 and 5, and you'll be sending 6,7,8,9 and then send me 10 when it gets released. Are we agreed?" Then I don't send until I get a "yes" response

    If you do that with every trade, there can be no misunderstanding. Last guy I just traded with even printed it out, checked off his end as he put each bottle in the box, and then included the list with the box so I could see that everything he agreed to was in there.

    Communication is key. If someone is flaky about communication, or not clear, don't do it!
