    @surlytheduff

I don't want to seem like I'm jumping the gun here, as it's only been a few days, but I'm not liking what I've seen thus far.

    Initial trade request:
    I send 4 BCBS
    He sends 08-11 Abyss

Agreed to the trade (12/3), and he gives me his shipping info, saying he will send out on Monday (12/7). I told him I wouldn't be able to ship until Wednesday, and he said that sounds good.

I sent my package on Wednesday, and shot him the tracking info, saying his package is currently out for delivery today (Friday, 12/11). I have yet to receive his package.

His last online date was Tuesday, and his last read date in the conversation is December 4th. I've sent several messages asking for the tracking info for his package and updating him on the status of my package, with no responses seen yet.

Perhaps I shouldn't have sent my package until I heard from him, but at that point it had only been one day from his last time online.

If I'm out of line posting this, feel free to tell me, but I just want to get everything sorted out and make sure we both get our beers.

I should also note that (as far as I know) this is not an international trade. I was shipping from MN to a MI address, which I assume is his.

He had good experiences with other traders. I would message them to see if they have any other contact info. Let's hope this gets resolved.

Only been a few days here... I think you might be jumping the gun a bit....

But, as so often is the case in most of these threads, communication is key. If the guy isn't getting back to you when he knows he's got a box to ship your way, that ain't cool.

    Cheers.

    Wow.. poor form OP.

OP wasn't online for a week and you make a bad trader thread?

Over 4 bcbs..? And you got the better end of his generosity on the trade as well.

Starting the thread was appropriate. Perhaps the timely resolution was done in part because this thread was started.

Assuming it was 2015 BCBS, that's at least $40 + shipping, which isn't huge but isn't inconsequential either.

IF someone can't make an agreed upon shipping date s/he should communicate that asap rather than 4 days later.

@Josholson666 I'm glad everything seems to be working out so easily. I look forward to reading that your beer arrived safely.

Poor form is logging on and ignoring messages from someone you owe a box to. Sure life happens, however that doesn't seem to be the case here and this very thread already resulted in a tracking number. As for what is changing hands, who cares? The OP responded to the ISO with exactly what the poster wanted.

The "bad trader" hasn't logged in to BA since 12/8 per the OP. It's not like he's on everyday or been ignoring for a month.

I think giving someone a week to get shit taken care of is standard. I know for me personally I'd give it much more than that and exhaust some other avenues before throwing up a bad trader thread. Search for the guy on facebook, shoot him an email or a text message, etc.

The way OP presented it, I'm not sure if Monday was an agreed upon shipping date or if it was Wednesday. Can get a bit murky when one person first suggests the earliest plausible date and the other party wants to wait. Maybe after OP stated Wednesday as the shipping date, the "bad trader" still explicitly intended to ship early. If not, we're talking about a bad trader thread after ~1.5 days without the "bad trader" having logged in at all.

Did I perhaps post this too soon? Yes. But did it result in an almost immediate response? Also yes. Isn't that the point of these.

Of course shit happens, and Mike has since apologized and sent the package, and hopefully all will be well. I was just worried as the package was to be sent on Monday and I had not heard anything about it in 6 days. The 60 some dollars I would've been out may not be a lot to you but for someone on a college budget that would've been a hit. I immediately thought the worst and decided to do something. As for the trade contents, that's really not fair of you to say that I'm overreacting because I'm getting a "better deal."

@mrpeterandthepuffers regardless of how often surlytheduff logs on he committed to shipping on Mon but failed to do so. He should have immediately followed up with the OP to explain & let him know when he would be shipping. Not doing so was poor form, had the OP nervous, & resulted in this thread. It's quite possible it was this thread that convinced surlytheduff to follow through asap & ship the damned beers.

In reading BT threads it's clear that happy outcomes occur more often in those that are thrown up the soonest. Undoubtedly, a part of this is that those originated in laziness & the BT never intended to steal. However, I suspect that another part of it is that the longer trades are left hanging, the more comfortable the BT becomes with the situation & is increasingly less inclined to send the beer s/he owes.

It looks like the OP is getting a happy outcome with no extended drama. Bravo to that!

@ mrpeterandthepuffers I understand & respect your choice to wait longer, but I think better, faster results are seem when these threads are posted sooner rather than later. Good outcomes benefit not only the OP's of these threads. They're also good for the BA community & for the faulty traders, as well.

It's frequently mentioned in these threads that moving quickly also protects the community. Kudos to Josholson666 for moving quickly.

Java, we actually don't KNOW that he committed to Monday. We know he initially suggested Monday, OP responded the he preferred Wednesday, and BT said that sounded good. Without a fuller account, it makes just as much sense that Wednesday was the shipping day. Either way it was late though.

It's been many years since I was a student but $60 is a hit I'd feel. Friends who are still on the daycare child raising budget would feel it even more. One of the nicest things about the craft beer community is that it's so inclusive, so generally anti-snob & anti-bigot.

I've been offered BVDL multiple times for VSB. Although the BVDL is $50/60 compared to $8.00 for the VSB it would be simplistic to assume that I would have gotten a better deal if I'd agreed to the trades. For me, Abyss at its finest doesn't come close to BCBS. I like Abyss. It's a very good beer. BCBS is a slice of Nirvana. Abyss is also much, much easier for me to obtain (both are sold here). The trade wasn't $4$ but it wasn't at all unfair, imo.

@Dolomitey I think the OP's post immediately preceding mine supports that surlytheduff did commit to shipping Mon. I don't think surlytheduff is a BT. I don't think he was poised to become a bad trader but the OP erring on the side of caution was appropriate, imo. I wouldn't hesitate to trade with either one. Nor would I require either to ship first. Nor does it seem like anything less than +fb will be warranted.

Surlytheduff hasn't posted here, but given how straightforward the situation is, I don't think he needs to unless he wants to.

It would be great if all BT threads resolved so happily.

Meh. I'm not interested in searching for evidence. It's the OP's responsibility to present facts and present them in a manner that proves them, not call them into question (two short sentences on the most important issue seems like a failure). I don't doubt that there was an explicit Monday agreement, but I'm not willing to blindly accept it given how there was clear potential for misunderstanding as presented. In the end, the conversation and agreement is all that really matters and should be the focus of a BT thread. That part needs to be crystal clear. It wasn't.
