Ah, I wrote this quickly and it probably reads horribly...I totally agree with you...I dont think the OP/sender is at all at fault here. When i said "didn't want anything in return", I probably should have said "didn't want anything to make up for it (the flat cans)". I think that OP is handing this very appropriately. Apologies if my initial post didn't convey this. I think that in this case, it is not at all the fault of the OP/sender, but also view it as nice form to send replacements (which he is offering!). My issue (like everyone else), is on the part of the receiver.

No worries, I figured there was a decent chance your post read differently than your intentions, but I wanted you to be aware of it

    Hello,

I am the BA that so many of you are judging on this thread. I appreciate the few of you who have not brought out the noose yet for the sake of getting the full story.

My fellow trade partner started this post with a question on protocol. He was not reporting me for taking advantage of him. This thread quickly turned into a witch hunt built on speculation and assumed motives.

I have been in contact with Fable. Him and I have been bouncing possible solutions off of each other. I have never been on the receiving end of this "flat beer" issue before. I sent a BA a growler that leaked once and I immediately suggested I send him a replacement. He insisted that I not. I felt like it may be a bad idea to for Fable to send a replacement in case those cans were flat as well. I had communicated to him that I would be sending along the beer we agreed to because I felt bad about the situation. There was only a question as to whether I send all 3 of the IPA's or send a couple now and then arrange another trade after the next Abrasive release.. I was not and am not settled on any solution until we find something that works for both of us.

Unfortunately though now Fable seems to be doubting my integrity because of all of the speculation and finger pointing on this thread. This should have been a situation that was worked out amicably between the two of us. Now I have people putting me on there "do not trade with list" for "taking advantage of a new trader". If you look at my feedback I am the guy who does not shy away from trading with new guys and give them guidance on packing and shipping. Many have given me great remarks for such. I remember what it was like to be the new guy, not that long ago. I don't have much else to say. I sincerely hope this calms the negative sentiments towards me. I will be resolving this issue with Fable and I assure all of you that he will be happy with his box of beer.

    Cheers!

Why did you open all 4 cans and then throw them away? Fable stated after the first flat can you found where Surly addressed the issue online...was that not the case?

I never told Fable I only opened 1 can. I think he must have just assumed as much. I assumed that not all of them would be flat.
My wife put them in recycling because she is a neat freak and just saw empty cans. It never crossed my mind as a concern because I did not think I would be sending empty cans back. When the BA requested I send the cans back empty I told him they had been disposed of and told him I was sending along the beer I owed him because I felt bad about the situation. I never meant to take away the BA's chance of getting a refund. I did not know this was even a possibility. Surly never mentioned that as an option.

Just wondering @jason3125: Were all four flat? In all cases reported thus far its only been one or two cans out of a 4 pack (at most, many 4 packs seem to be fine) that were flat.

In my opinion they were all flat. The first two certainly were. That's what lead me to look into the matter. I tried the last 2 and thwy tasted the same in my opinion. The cans were also heavily dented when I received them from the BA. This was a case I spoke with the BA about. The cans were loosely packed and slamming into each other during transit. I encouraged him to use more packaging and a bigger box. I do not know if cans being severely dented would effect the carbonation or not. Just a thought.

I've gotten Heady shipped to me before with no packaging whatsoever, just cans in a box. Didn't effect carbonation or quality in the least. Why not just have OP reship you a new 4-pack on the next run?

That was one of the things I suggested. We never worked out a solution. He has not responded to me since this thread got going. I believe all of these speculative post have made him doubt me. Which is sad because I was trying to remedy the situation with him.

Have you sent your side of the agreed up on trade yet? I know OP said you were going to yesterday, just curious.

I have not. As I communicated to OP yesterday, I live in New England and am getting hammered by a blizzard currently. I told him I would ship tomorrow, after the storm.

Interesting. Someone separately has reached out to me to say they also received a full 4-pack that they thought was flat. I was basing my statements solely based on the Abrasive thread in the Midwest forum. Sucks that you got one of the bad 4-packs :slight_frown: It really is awesome stuff, but I was a day or two late picking some up from the first batch and by the time I was going to pick some up from the stores the problems were being reported already so I held off.

Here lies my confusion. You're saying you guys haven't worked out a solution yet, but his post seems to suggest that you had, and that it involved you sending fewer beers than originally agreed upon.

It would be great if both of you could clear this up, as all of my comments here have been based on the idea that you were sending him less beer as a response to this issue.

Yeah, it's a sad situation especially considering how long people waited for the release. Fable and I started working out this trade in the beginning of December thinking that Abrasive would be released any day.

We have only been making suggestions aND asking questions until today. I had told him that I am still sending him some beer regardless. I was still trying to work out a final solution. I was trying to be reassuring. He had suggested replacing it. I was concerned about the possibility of getting more flat beer and him wasting more $. After seeing this thread today I have decided to just send him the entire amount and forget about replacements. I am not trying to take advantage of anyone. I could care less about replacements at this point. I have spent my whole afternoon stressing over being slandered on here.
