Completely new to trading, trying to figure some of this out. So, regarding trade ratios. Does the ratio usually side with the order they appear In the subject. Subject: ISO XX beer, FT YY beer 2:1 So they are looking for 2 of what they are searching for (XX), for one of what they have to trade (YY) OR Does the ratio side with the person posting it. Subject: ISO XX beer, FT YY beer OP posts looking for 2:1 Are they looking for 2 of their beer YY up against 1 of what they are searching for XX? I feel it could be either way, and just want to make sure if I am negotiating a trade I am not shorting myself? TIA
Would say you've got it for the most part. No rule on it, though, and after hanging around a bit you'll probably be able to figure out based on what the respective beers are. Cheers, and welcome to BA @Jmorey
I was looking at one trade where I can see an earlier request where they were willing to go 1:1 and then later it is posted 2:1. So I can't figure out if they got more desperate and will put more up to get what they want, or decided they wanted more in the trade for the same input from themselves.
You could always send them a note and ask for more specifics. (In case you don't know what I mean: First you click on their name, then click on "Start a Conversation".)
I struggled with this for a while too. I think that different people post ratios differently. It becomes easier to figure out based on perceived values of beers. But when in doubt, just ask the trade OP.
Already on top of that. Thanks. Read through their previous trades and they have good reviews, so I would hope they are honest and not realize I am new and flip the ratio in their favor (if they originally meant the opposite)
you also have to figure out the contingent of people that add the value of time traveled / waited in line / weather I try to keep it $4$ and i always exchange phone numbers and I also text a pic of the cargo make sure you get all the info name addy phone num's email I almost forgot learn your equations too MCBP+ADWTD-3F=FFF + HT{ZD}-LPK/CCK
If, like me, you understood each of those abreviations; turn off your computer and go outside, it may already be too late.
"Just give me all the bacon you have. Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, 'Give me a lot of bacon.' What I said was, 'Give me all the bacon you have.' Do you understand?"
From what I've seen, when people write it like this it means two of theirs for one of yours. It seems that almost everyone tends to write the ratios as mine:yours. And if someone changes an offer from 1:1 to 2:1 it means they didn't get a response so they decided to offer more.
excellent info, thank you. seems like something that should be so easy, but yet it could go either way.
I know what you mean, mathematically you'd think that it should go in order of what they offered/requested, but nope.
When your dealing with locals shelf stuff it's easier to just look at the cost, and as long as your close to even $ wise it's good, obviously some beers cost more. Same perhaps with limited seasonal release brews, they usually trade very closely with other brews of the same style and availability. As an example a BA Sexual Chocolate from NC is released is Aug every year, I could ask for say a Central Waters 16/17 from Mn or other brews in that class. The extremely limited highly sought after beers will cost, and all bets are off, strictly up to the seller to what he wants and then finding a trader who wants to pay the price. No rules really on the last one, some FT's are sane and fair based on the desirability , and some are quite ridiculous.
