A little known store in my area has about 12 bottles of this stuff on the shelf. I saw it was a wild ale brewed only once in 2009. Pretty pricey at $12 each. What would you guys figure for its trade value?
You must think to yourself, with the popularity of craft beer today and people hoarding wild ales "why are there still 12 bottles of brabant sitting on the shelf?"
I'm not looking to land whales with these, but it's pretty obvious nobody is walking in and buying them anytime soon, at this store. So, are they worth grabbing and setting loose on the trade market?
Then what are you looking to land with them? My post was short, and perhaps a touch snarky, but it was also 100% accurate. As BearsOnAcid mentioned, there's a reason they're still on the shelves while other wild ales are being bought up like hotcakes. Make a FT post and list a few things you're looking for. If you don't get any bites, you'll know nobody wants them.
I don't mean to be a dick, but.... fuck value. Offer up your beer and ask for what you want. If you get an offer then you are good, if not try again. The premise of this website is to share beer and knowledge, not to make sure you get "what it's worth".
I sent one off as an extra a couple months back. Never tried it but a bottle shop had one left and I said why not? Back to the question though. I would guess it could land solid seaonals or some limited distro beers.
There are about 12 bottles of it at a local store by me as well for $9 each. Obviously the trade value on it is $9-$12 in other off the shelf beer.
@Mark, if that were true then why don't they sit on the shelf at a bunch of stores? The reason they are sitting on the shelf is probably because nobody knows to shop at this store. @ji28, I don't want to buy something up and whiff. I wasn't trading in 2009, when this came out, so I posted this thread to gauge how a FT would do with this beer.
They do: Additionally, when I was living in Michigan I saw a few different stores that had a bunch of them. Again, what are you looking to trade them for?
I don't know of any left around here so I personally wouldn't mind getting it as an extra. I like that idea.
So, if you got an $8 beer for your $12 beer, it would ruin your day or what? Share the beer bro. Someone who has never tried it will respond to an ISO post and send you a beer that you have never tried. What the hell is the problem? If no one bites on the trade post then you can...........wait for it........drink it. Nothing personal Pappy, it's just that these what is my beer worth threads drive me nuts. I will bow out now and let the opinions flow.
