I am getting a 2005 B1 Blabaer, and these rare lambics are so hard to figure out a trade value on. I think I would like to sort through all of your advice for 1:1 bottles, or somewhere up to 5:1 for this bottle. I can't imagine that there are much more than 10 of these left.

Not exactly the advice you're looking for, but I'd definitely say that your target audience is a tasting group. That should keep it fairly wide open if you end up going for quantity. I don't think you'd have to limit yourself regionally. I think you could easily pull an assortment from across the country/globe. Keeping that in mind though, I don't think you'd get another true white whale as the tasting group probably wants to drink it. I'd think your best option would be in the 4-6 super rare bottle range.

I'd honestly pick out 4-6 of your biggest wants outside of the true "white whale" list and see if somebody/some group could come up with it.

I think with something like this its gonna be hard to pinpoint a "value" so to speak, as mentioned above I think your target audience is gonna be pretty small. I know there are certainly older lambics that people are always seeking, cant say I have ever seen an ISO specifically for much older vintages of Blabaer. With the exception of the super super whaley stuff, I dont think you would get laughed at asking anything bottle 4 bottle.

There are certainly many intangibles - how it was acquired (hopefully not stolen from the brewery, lol)? How many times has it changed hands (basically, how its been stored for the past 10 yrs)? Just some questions I would think any potential trader might inquire about...not saying you need to answer them here, just that they may come up in conversations.

Like PHB, this isn't exactly the advice you wanted!

Ya, though to say. It is on its way to me now. I traded away an 05 Fou last week basically because my thinking was "When am I going to open this bottle up?"

Same goes for this one. I may try to trade down for a bunch of big bottles. Thanks for the input, and I would appreciate more input if anyone has seen a 1:1 or any trade go down for B1 Blabaer.

    Cheers

I also think your target audience for this is going to be tiny and even more so considering how many of them would trade for this as opposed to going to Akkurat or Moder Lambic etc to drink it onsite... or something of similar value.

Actually, maybe send off an email to the brewery, they might like to have this, if they don´t have a few already.

I have had interest on this bottle; but waaay too low; so I think I will keep this bottle. Offers of Anniversary (would rather have a better year OGV with many more) or a Framboos+ is a bit off to me. As previously said by other BA's; 4-6 incredible bottles is in the ball park. So far, nothing has my jimmy hard. Apparently this post has reached other media sites where I am getting offers from people who have heard. There are some 4-6 great bottles that I would be looking for. First and foremost, this thread was to create a thread about what this bottle is worth; and I have heard 4-6 great bottles. And I am a maybe at that. Just wondering

So you traded for a bottle you don't want to drink yourself???

sort of seems like a weird thread...seems mostly that you think won a trade (for the purpose of flipping) but now want validation on that, or to start a quasi-auction for it (given you just traded an 05 Fou for this bottle last week shouldn't you know it's trade value?)

(sorry if that reads dickish but just being honest I think that's how this thread reads to me)

I dont think he traded the fou foune for this bottle, i agree it kind of read that way though. If he did he won that trade

Ya, 05 Fou was a separate deal. All that I am saying is that I was looking to get some understanding on what this bottle would trade for; and the people who chimed in on pick 4-6 bottles that you really want are probably right on with this one. I just have received two offers that were significantly lower than that so I will keep it in the cellar to sleep for many years. It is kinda hard to figure out what this bottle is worth. But I am close to completing the vert so maybe I will do a tasting with my group on all of the batches. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Side question about any batch of Blabaer. Can DB Huna pull Blabaer? 2:1? :flushed:

Based on your trade threads, I want to move in and become your full time glass washer. That way I can sip the dregs and lick the glasses.

Where are you getting it from and what are you having to give up? Are you acquiring the bottle purely to trade?

Framboos+ sounds spot on to me...they're very close on the current white whale list (actually Framboos is "ahead" of Blåbær B1). 50th Anniversary is way higher on the list as well. I think you're over-valuing the Blåbær.

Framboos is nowhere near B1 Blabaer. 50 bottles of B1 Blabaer made, maybe 10 out there; there are a bunch of B2 Boos around. I can't imagine anyone would trade those 1:1

I have done 09 Blabaer 1:1 with Framboos twice; and there were a lot more 09 Blabaer made

I think your advice is good here. I just need a few bottles for the vert to do with some friends. Cheers, and thanks everyone for chiming in!

The bottle is only worth what someone's willing to trade for it. So it just sounds like you place a higher value on it than the market does.
