Trade Value Thread (2019)

I’ve traded for and traded and traded away Purple Wax Assassin within the last 7-8 months. 7-8 months ago, I traded a Backyard Rye + Henna Smore + some smaller bottles (like reg Dark Lord ‘18) for Assassin 16. And I’ve traded away Assassin 16 more recently for Dark Lord Hung Drawn n’ Quartered 1:1

I still have both of my Assassin 18 bottles (Orange Wax) so I can’t speak to what it takes to lond one.

As for preference, no one’s had the Red Wax Assassin ‘19 yet (unless they are an insider for TG), but the Purple and Orange are a bit different. Purple definitely has more of the dark fruit aspect, whereas Orange has more straight up barrel aged sweetness flavors. Depending on which flavors you like will depend on which one you might want to target. Purple definitely trades for more thought.

 

While we're on the subject, maybe you could chime in to let me know how close I am to an Orange Assassin with Voodoo Black Magick FT? I have green and blue wax (2017), and am wondering if it's a small plus, big plus, or closer to 2:1.

 

I would think you're pretty close with 2:1. I traded for Blue Wax (Buffalo Trace b2) + Green Wax (Old Forrester) with a Chaos '17. This was probably a year and a half ago, and I think Chaos 17 trades for close to (or slightly more than) Assassin '18.

See what I said below, but I'd say 2:1 is way over. 1 and a very solid plus should land it. 2+:1 for purple, on the other hand, would be a better get imo.

Orange is pretty much 1:1 with VR at this point. A lot of people straight up didn't like this one, so it tanked after release and brought purple down to 1.25-1.5VR.

 

What are your thoughts on flavor profiles of orange and purple?

Fremont just started distributing here this last year and the state got 10 cases with 4 showing up at my local bottle shop with the promise if any others weren’t claimed they would arrive later. $24 each and I squirreled away 7 bottles and got an inbox to trade one for a Jam due to my post so all is well on this end. I’ve traded here for a few years and always went $4$. We don’t get any real rare releases or hyped up stuff so this was the first since the cognac and rye Abyss variants. I enjoy reading this thread though (wish there was a translator some of the time lol) and appreciate your info. Cheers John.

 

Can I ask where you are seeing it go 1:1 with VR? I'd like to acquire a bottle in that range, I just haven't seen it offered/close for that. If you don't want to post it publicly, you can DM me if you'd like.

 

What are you seeing

 

Purple is dark fruit forward with some fudgy-ness to it, and well balanced barrel. Orange is also strong on the dark fruit, but with an umami/tobacco flavor and more boozy. Most people I've asked significantly prefer purple, but some people like orange. I'd personally take purple 10/10 times.

Mostly in facebook groups, but even on here when I offered an Orange Assassin it took adding an FOb3 and two Huna's to close for BAA 4:1 (this was right after the last BAA release when it was at it's lowest). I've seen it trade 1:1 with Hand of Glory b2 a couple times too.

 

I have a buddy in OR who said a couple of the bottle shops got a case each and even at 1 PP they went pretty fast. A few spots in So Cal got some, but again a case or 2 each and again 1 PP and they all went pretty fast.

I still have a couple of bottles to trade as well, but traded most already.

Although we are talking small units I think Orange is still a touch above VR. Maybe a 1.1 VR unit. FWIW I traded for one 1:1 with Coconut Vibes B2.

I have to ask but where are these 1:1 (or 1.1:1) VR:Assassin '18 coming from as far as them being same trade value? I can understand the Coconut Vibes b2 and Assassin 18 being at 1:1, but I pulled up the last 5 'SOLD' transactions on MBC for VR and Assassin 18, and those 2 are not anywhere near close. I hate secondary values and understand that trade value and secondary don't correlate exactly, but I'm just curious about this 1:1.

I hide no fact that I really enjoy and possess Assassin beers (see avatar). But I've traded and acquired multiple different vintages over the years including pre-Assassin 16....They have never traded 1:1 with VR/Prop '14 on Beer Advocate (maybe I'm missing a post or two but I follow the trade forums closely). VR trade value has gone down in the last half year or so, so maybe people need to readjust what a perceived VRU is also.

 

You can’t trust MBC “sales” as they’re often fake. According to the beer value FB group, most people are seeing Assassin ‘18 trading/razzling/selling for 1 VRU. Purple Assassin is slightly above that at 1.25 VRU
