thanks man posting here actually helped me finally land one.

I guess to hopefully aid with the good luck in posting here but I’ve also been trying to track down a Leon b1, would fellowship of xul be enough? Is the difficulty in landing one based more of how old it is, was able to land b2 but never any hits on b1

Holy mountain Ms pecan + homage wild pink robots for Maman 18? I'm looking for Maman. Would this be enough or do I need to add? Thanks

I think the problem is the homage beer. Outside CA homage isn't well known and I think most will look at this as Ms pecan+. If you sub that second bottle for something of a little higher value I think you'll be good but it's hard to land Maman people just don't want to give it up

Idk man, homage is pretty well known in my opinion, especially since the 3 chiefs collab they did. I’m in Florida and don’t drink too much wild stuff and know of them. Wild pink robots is just a little less valuable than the MS pecan. Think that’s a super solid offer.

I'm not a big bourbon guy so forgive my ignorance here. Is it common to trade open bottles? I would be extremely uncomfortable with that, even if I was dealing with an experience trader like yourself.

I have not participated in this thread in some time, but getting back into it.

I don’t think it is common. That said, I have been open to the idea with people I trust. It’s a lot like samples (of whiskey). You have to trust the person, and unless you are trading S4S (my own term - sample for sample), then I do think it is uncommon. But, not unheard of.

It’s weird, though, because I get the feeling that a opened bottle is not valued at the proportional price of how much is left - there’s a depreciation. BUT, samples seem to be valued at a proportional rate. Not sure why, but I believe this is true.

@Slack To answer your question, I’d need to know the relative value of those. I am ignorant on those specific whiskeys.

I think you would be hard pressed to get more than $20 of beer for the open bottles. Wilderness Trail is a newer distiller, fairly unknown, but you can find their bottles for about $50 unopened online. Barrel bourbon costs a little more, but sits on the shelves.

Buffalo Trace is available just about everywhere at $20 -$30 a bottle. Will be hard to find someone who will spend $20 on shipping, but won't go to a local liquor store for slightly more. If it is a SP, that should trade a lot easier.

Appreciate all the feedback. Previously in the days of the Wild West that was Reddit, I had success at this very type of trade. It hadn’t occurred to me that it might not be as well received in this forum. Given the crickets and quoted comments, it does make sense. Cheers all.

Having traveled to VA recently and talking to people about Bourbon, I understand why BT was on your list: it’s non-existent in Va, and where it is, it’s a 1 bottle limit and always sold out. But, as noted above, that is not the case for many parts of the US.

On that note I'm starting to question whiskey/bourbon samples perhaps not having the pallet to discern top tier bourbons but traded for and part of the trade was for a GTS sample, after having it I was wondering if the sample was GTS or some run of the mill bourbon.

I would never trade for a "sample" of anything how could you ever possibly prove what's inside is what you traded for? Most of the places putting samples up for trade or sale have absolutely no tracking system either, bunch of random people getting paid for vials of brown liquid. It's a lot harder to fake a sealed, waxed, or corked bottle than a sample.

That said, GTS is an absolutely terrible bourbon.

That’s too bad. Really. I hope it was not a falsified sample.

There are people I trust that I would do it with, but I would indeed be cautious with the ‘random public’ so to speak.

What year (or proof) was the sample supposed to be?
