I know you didn't ask, but I'll explain anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

Over the last 2 years I have traded for vintage BC. BC is my beer - it's my favorite beer, and I love it. I'm a total BC fanboy, and it's the only brewiana I collect. It makes up a substantial portion of my cellar, and I just can't get enough BCBS and BCBBW.

I haven't traded for any vintage BCBS in awhile, but in 2018 and 2017, it seemed like the going rate was frequently about $15-20 worth of beer/bottle from someone reasonable. Frequently people would only have 1 or maybe 2 to trade. This was true for 2012-2014 vintages.

2015 you can (and have been) able to land for about cost ($10), because many people are unwilling to chance it, even with verified bottles from the same case being good, or non-sour bottling time/dates.

So, if we assume $20/13 and 14, $15 for 2015, then $10 thereafter, you're looking at around $85 worth of beer. That's an undervaluation for Maman.

That said, suppose you threw in a 2011 BC, which is significantly harder to find than 2012, and 2010 is more difficult to find than both 2009 and 2011. Does that help? Only for the person that really wants a vertical, in which case they probably just need the 2011.

Only way I see this happening (and it would truly be "right set of eyes" type trade) is if you were offering 2009-2018, OR you had a 2009 bomber + some of the other vintages. (The bombers are difficult to find, and personally I am still looking for one, just to drink and then add to my BC bottles on my bar.)

Any sort of consensus on Cantillon Brabantiae 2019?

I recently had a 2008, and it was long past it’s prime. So that’s another issue working against him.

2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005 are all for collectible purposes only at this point, especially since these were all screw off caps. Posts on BA indicate as early as 2013 or so that some of these early BCBS bottles were already fading hard.

Forgot to add: They go for a pretty penny if you can find them. 2008 and 2007 are easily 1/2 VR unit. A 2005 or 2006 is likely a VR. I'd love to have them - even empty (especially with caps!), but I can't find anyone with them.

So I am brand new to trading and this weekend I was at prop day at Goose Island. I bought the 4 bottles they had to offer which were the Double Barrel, 2 proprietors, and a cafe de olla. I'm trying to figure out what kind of value these have since I'm brand new to this.

YOU WON THE JACKPOT! ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Honestly, the value on those is bouncing around right now, being fresh. It would be better if you gave some kind of guage as to what you would be looking for.

Mainly looking for some rarer IPA's. Kind of trying to figure out what I could expect almost $4$ with trading these.

The Veil Starve C for Aslin El Rio. Is a plus needed on the El Rio side?

No judgement, but you would be doing yourself a disservice trading those for ipas. Just my humble opinion.

@RileyWins can probably get a nice assortment of ~12-14 treehouse/trillium quality IPAs for your beers. Not a bad first trade and you can turn 4 beers into 3x. If you plan on trading, trading now is a good idea because those puppies will depreciate come December/January. Black Friday GI will will be available to everyone and the trade value will start to drop. Welcome to BA.

Yeah I got an offer from a guy who is gonna give me a bunch of Russian River, as well as Alvarado and a few others. Probably gonna throw in a Fundamental Observation from Bottle Logic? Just basically trying to get my moneys worth for what I paid for the 4 bottles.. Just want to enjoy the stuff I get.

Make sure you're happy with what you're getting. If you're trading your four GI bottles for IPAs, you can basically get any IPAs you want. If there's something specific you're searching for, put up a post and you're almost certain to get it. As @Affinity said, you can expect to get a minimum of 12 quality IPAs, and I'd say even as many as 20.

If you just take a glance at the ISO:FT Limited forum, you could get quite a selection of bottles for what you have, depending on your interest. In the end though, what most matters is that you are happy with what you are getting.

This is how trades were done back in the day, so kudos to you for even thinking about that kind of trade- hopefully you establish a long-term trading relationship out of that. I've got mine from back in the day and greatly value these long-term relationships because these are not easy to find nowadays.

A bit biased here but I am inclined to believe the opposite in that The Veil side adds

Opinions obviously differ on this, but I think you're making a good trade and should be receiving some really good beer (just make sure everything is fresh). In your shoes, I'd make this trade as well (though I'm not sure I would throw in the bottle of FO).

I think this has been pointed out previously, but most traders seem to focus on the perceived secondary value of the beer they're trying to trade, which is typically based on a number of factors (quality is certainly one factor, but rareness, hype and FOMO also seem to play a big role as well). In your case, I think you're trading quality for quality, but as beers from RR and Alavarado aren't that rare/limited, and are relatively easy to obtain, most folks in this forum are probably going to feel you're really not getting enough in exchange for your GI bottles.

What is needed, if anything, to balance the trade of BCBS Reserve '18 and a BCBS Prop '19?

    Thank you; cheers!
