Weller SR is perfectly fine, better than both, and I'm not all over its jock or anything. It's just a more enjoyable bourbon that also happens to be readily accessible. Both Staggs are driven by scarcity and trade hype, moreso than the drinking experience.

I really enjoy Maker's Cask Strength. Easy to come by, and sometimes less than $40 a bottle.

I have never seen a W12 in a shop for retail. My local total wine recently got a case - it sold out in 2 minutes. Legit, 12 people hauled ass there in a matter of 2 minutes.
Stagg Jr on the other hand, i have often been able to find at or around retail. I also think it is somewhat foolish to chase a specific batch # - it is my understanding that batches 9-13 have all been fairly consistent, with some people liking one over the other over the other etc.

Which side are you on? Mercy seat is about 2/3 of the way to an Omnipolloscope 2. If you're offering the omnipolloscope that should be really easy to close

4 Roses single barrel (especially store picks), EH Taylor small batch, 1792 full proof. Usually store picks punch above their weight too

I love high proof full flavor drams and feel Stagg JR. B12 and most Stagg bottlings deserve their hype, just not secondary pricing.

What about Weller Special Reserve do you find more enjoyable than the Stagg’s (disregarding the blazing hot Stagg Jr. releases)? Do you prefer reg or high proof pours? I find SR to be nothing exciting, so trying to see how we approach bourbon so differently. It may be my addiction to high proof pours.

    Hey, beer friends.

I’m looking to track down a LPK (any vintage). Am I still short if I offer up ‘16 Blabaer (375) + Prop ‘19?

Thanks in advance for your feedback! Cheers!

    It certainly is.

Drinking gasoline is not enjoyable to me.

I like actually tasting flavor...and smelling aroma. Not jet fuel scalding my mucous membranes.

Balance, subtlety, and complexity are attributes not found in either of the Staggs.

I did a blind taste with Jr b10 (I believe) and GTS 18. I was able to pick out the GTS, but it was very close. The other three people thought Jr was GTS. For the price tag difference and availability I'd go JR over GTS any day.

I agree that both staggs are over-hyped, but W12 is freakin delicious!

Lol, I get it. 130 proof drinks like 90 to me these days. I’ve been in to high proof bourbon since 2011, so i‘ve probably killed all my taste buds by now.

I do feel that once you can get past the heat there is more complexity and flavor in the quality Stagg pours, most certainly in the finish. I would also say they are not overhyped for those that are into high proof.

Comparing the SR to those was kind of like comparing a lager to High ABV BA Stouts. I shouldn’t have tried to draw a comparison.

Everything was well and good until this.

High proof serves one purpose: to get drunker with fewer sips.

It's not a different style like lager is to stout. That's absurd.

The only barrier to entry is one's tolerance to intense fusel booze.

I can roll a Stagg around the tongue like the best of them, but I feel that the increase in proof in many if not all cases only suppresses a lot of the elements that makes distillers', particularly BT's, other selections more enjoyable.

And if one finds oneself putting ice or water droplets into the bourbon, then one is just doing the blenders work for them.

Any thoughts on Shared Sulla Terra, and what kind of stuff it might take to pull one? Don't see it a lot going one way or the other.

I think this is a great offer; I just don't see a lot of them for trade. 1 just closed for 2 PtY, but I think this was an exception. I think your package should do it on paper at least. I just had my LPK 2012 a couple nights ago and it was worth every dime I spent getting it. Good luck, Kevin.

How close are Maman 19 and A&T?

I appreciate that! Tried to come in strong... We’ll see how it plays out. A bottle for 2 PTY seems crazy to me but what do I know

    Cheers!

Unless something has changed in the last 9 months, these are not even the same ballpark.

Even when you offer something (valuewise) that is comparable for A&T you wil not be able to close unless (1) someone is feeling generous, or (2) you are offering something very rare.

As good as Maman is, there is not a reason in the world to trade it for something so easy as maman. Even BBT B1/3 might not pull one away from me if I had it.

They are rare enough, I would only trade it for something very tough to find, because it is one hell of an anchor. (A better anchor than some of the zenne, some of the recent limited cantillon, blaebaer, etc.)

Thanks @Beer_Economicus. I saw this close for BAIGCS not too long ago. I wonder if it was just the exception. Really had no clue A&T was that sought after. Does anyone know if A&T is as good as the hype. A&G is fabulous and a top choice of mine, but wanting to see if the cost of admission for A&T is worth it. For example I thought Zenne 1 and 2 were totally worth what they trade for.

Maybe I will try my luck for some easier lambic. Thanks.
