FWIW I traded mine for one each of the Revolution Jacket series. 1 each VSOJ, Boss Jacket, Strawberry Jacket, Honey Jacket, and regular ol' straight jacket.

Question, can i trade a weller 107 for 2 store picks of bourbons such as knob creek, eagle rare, buffalo trace, four roses single barrel etc? I guess I'm asking if I can trade a Weller 107 for it's secondary value? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Unless something changes recently, secondary on 107 should be not too much higher than the new MSRP in most places. It sounds like you are thinking Secondary is closer to 100, which I think is definitely inaccurate.

Like anything else, some people are happy to pay secondary (either directly or in trade). If someone can’t find OWA, but does have it can find store picks, and are looking to pay that price, then sure.

I would think most people would be in at the 60-75 range if people were considering this. Can’t imagine too many are in at the 75-100 range.

Store picks can differ significantly in MSRP. I can see people having 2 of these and paying close to 45 OTD or others paying much closer to 40+tax/bottle. -Which is why I gave this much longer answer.

You're probably looking at typically somewhere between 1:1 and 2:1 depending on the bourbon. Four Roses Private Stocks are pretty darn pricey now, and they're totally delicious. For an average pick, I could see 1:1. For more desirable picks (e.g., 10+ year OESK, tier 5 or 6, etc.) you would be the one adding, and some of the really top tier Four Roses picks could even require a Weller 12, or more. At the lower end, I could see some BT store picks going 2:1. People don't want to spend crazy retail amounts so keep the $4$ aspect of it in mind, at least partially. Don't be surprised if people ask you to throw in some local hops in a 2:1 trade.

    This, also.

I somehow missed the 4 roses mention. They are certainly an outlier compared to the others. As an example, saw a posting of a 14yr store pick KC in a Michigan meijer recently that was like $26. Those, BT, ER can all me fairly inexpensive or damn expensive. But, almost always, 4 roses picks are quite a bit more expensive.

Just curious, is it kosher to trade a test tube of beer?

I'm pretty sure you're legally obligated to provide this thread details... what sort of question did "your friend" have in mind?!

@William_Navidson I am happy to oblige. "My friend" had an opportunity to acquire a high trading stout (let's call it Vanilla Bean Assassin for discussions sake) and wanted to know if it was kosher to trade said vial of beer. 4oz of a 12oz beer could potentially yield 25% value in treading in a theoretical sense. Probably much lower since it's not a whole bottle. I never see beer traded like this, but I occasionally see bourbon in this format. I was just asking....errr....he was just asking me to ask the legitimacy of this.

First, I gotta tag @Vitacca Because of his participation in various posts involving OWK and general vialing of SP beers.

Onto your question: People apparently do it. I've never done it. Sounds terrible. Why would I want a highly oxidized version of a beer, and pay an exhorbitant amount for it? It doesn't stay good the way whiskey does. Whiskey is absolutely traded, gifted, and stored in sample bottles for - even at times - years. This can be true without disastrous effects depending on the longevity of the original bottle, but the same cannot obviously be said for a beer. You take a beer, you open it, and you use a vacuum cork to store it overnight, and already that beer is oxidized, and it's noticeable. Now imagine no vacuum cork. Terrible.

Also, "vialing" is often done illegally, as is the case with SP beers that must be consumed on-site. Here, illegal means that the beer was never supposed to leave the establishment.

FWIW I wouldn't even take vialed whiskey from anyone that wasn't a close personal friend I knew for a long while...I think the people that accept them or opened/partially used bottles are really ripe for getting taken advantage of. There's absolutely no way to know what you got is what you paid/traded for.

Technically speaking, this could be done with beer as well, assuming it's not a waxed bottle. Someone could have drank the contents, filled it with kbs, and reseal the bottle.
