I know it's Wednesday but I forgot to post yesterday. How close am I with this offer?

    Derivation 3 + Assassin 18: Handjee 16

I feel like I'm the only person that's traded away a Handjee '16 that's still commenting on that, but about a year ago I traded it away for a BA Abraxas '17 + Tete de Cuvee b1, for what it's worth. Since then I think Handjee '16 has only gone way up in 'trade value', partly because there are simply fewer and fewer of them. Original bottle count was only 560 I believe.

But in all honesty, there is negligible difference between Handjee 16 and 17. Unless you want to tick the '16, for ticking sake, I would opt for looking for Handjee '17 which is a slight bit easier to trade for than '16 (due to larger bottle count (1227), and more recent).

I am generally not sure - but I assumed the value of any of the derivations (except maybe Apple Brandy, which people liked less?) would be around Handjee level. Could have sworn I saw 2 posts recently with D3 FT with very high asking values, and no comments indicating that they were off.

    I'm curious if anyone knows.

I assumed the same, but like @eppie82 stated, there is less and less bottles of Handjee 16 as time passes..... but, that also means there is less bottles of Derivation. So I would assume that Derivation would be pretty close to Handjee 16 in value.

If you are not interested in trying to make sure that you squeeze every ounce of value out of your Derivation, and what you really want is Handjee, I think you should 100% offer Derivation 1:1 with Handjee. I'm hard pressed to believe someone wouldn't take you up on it. No idea how D3 ranks in the grand scheme of the blends, but there are way fewer blends than Handjee. Seems like someone would absolutely take you up on it.

Worse case scenario, you have to try again and add a plus.

Just as a side note, there could be like 4k bottles of Handjee after DLD this year. How will quality rank? Who knows, but no one knows what's being released yet this year (at least, not that I've seen).

I would agree. i think D3:handjee are 1:1 right now. Probably not too many D3 around now either.

What kind of relative vr's would I need to add on top of IWAAD b2 to Land a handjee 17?
    Thanks

I think the difference between HJ 16 & 17 comes down to personal taste. 17 imho was a sweet mess and was the resounding thoughts of everyone that tried it. I’ve had most of the 17 variants and honestly think they were all very sweet. Sweeter than previous years. HJ 16 was a top 3 brew I’ve had. I think a lot has to do with the DL base changing taste wise yearly. I think based on reviews HJ 16 has been the best vintage. 17 is definitely easier to obtain.

    Just my 2 cents.

What “top” sours can 2018 HF BoT and E. pull?

Wondering what from places like: Cantillon, SARA, SP, HM would be fair. Really want something like VGT, Fou, West Ashley, etc but not sure on relative values.

    E. is weird. Great beer, but doesn't trade high for whatever reason.

Nothing wrong with having your own opinion bud, even when it's wrong  . All kidding aside, taste, expectations, etc. all those things will definitely play a role. When my group had Handjee 17, we didn't really notice much of a difference between it and Handjee 16 (from the people that've had both). Both were quite sweet, but that was to be expected. What wasn't expected was that literally everyone was disappointed with BA Abaraxas '17 relative to Handjee '17 (BAA followed Handjee '17). We had 4 big beers that evening and BAA was either 3rd or 4th most favorable by everyone (BADL '16 was the surprise of the night).

Dunno if this was missed but curious.

Also any former r/beertrade people know if there's any progress on starting up something else?

I thought about it for a bit, and this is just speculation but IWAAD b2 seemed to be trading around BAA abraxas level (prior to this BAA release which threw a wrench into it a bit) and BAA doesn’t trade 1:1 with Handjee. I’d think you’d need a descent plus like a Prop 17 to get interest. At least that’s what I would try first.

Also, I don’t have possession of any Handjee bottles anymore so I have no self interest in protecting anything. I’m just stating what I would think would pique my interest. The thing with these bottles is it will take the right set of eyes and patience to get what you’re looking for, especially at 1:1. Unless you are desperate to move that IWAAD b2 bottle, I would post it a few more times 1:1 over a longer stretch of time (maybe once a week or every two weeks) and see if the right person sees it. If after a couple of months you are getting no interest, then I would consider upping the offer. No need to be in a hurry. Your bottle is still going to be very highly sought after.
