Thus my point. We have two "yeahs" and a single "nay". Perhaps this helped the person. Perhaps not. One person's opinion on a trade (even someone who is steeped in trade culture) is only worth the warm spit it takes to say it.

I always read this thread... don’t contribute much because I really don’t know the value of a lot of these beers.... hence the reason why I read this thread

For those wanting another voice . . .
    MDb5 > DL vert

I do not have a DL vert and will not be getting MDb5 so I do not have a horse in the race fwiw.

I agree that MDB5 would pull a vertical. That's based on several points.

1, "Aftermarket" for DL is roughly $40-50 for the present year & general goes up about $10-20 per previous year.

2, DL bottle count trumps MD ten told.

3, Those who seek out DL are generally those who are new to the beer scene & couldn't get tickets. Or it's someone who wants it for nostalgia.

Personally, I've had DL (regular) twice & there's no way I would trade a MD for any year DL. I say that because DL isn't anything special (in my honest opinion). It's a mass produced, Russian imperial stout that's just overly sweet. With so many breweries now a days & so many new options out there, I would rather try something new instead of trying a beer that didn't impress me to begin with.

Now, let's say that I got into MD & had never tried DL. Would I want to trade for a DL? Maybe? If I did, it definitely wouldn't be 1:1 which is based on cost. MD is twice the cost of DL when speaking $:$. Also, DL can be purchased for $40-50 (as stated above) so then I would ask, why trade a MD for a bottle that can be easily obtained? Which then leads me back to reiterate my original point which is that it would still take a vertical to pull a MD based on availability & cost out of pocket. Those are just my personal opinions so take them with a grain of salt

So @AyatollahGold are you going to put up the MD for trade & nab a Dark Lord vertical or not? I'm all atingle with curiosity now.

Well, I'm definitely going to try getting something out of a bottle, just don't know what yet. (I usually don't have anything like this to trade). Just weighing my options. Thinking either a Dark Lord vertical, Dark Lord Variants, Assassin, or some nice Cantillon (cuz I've never had any).

Since we are on the topic of verticals, what do you guys think a vertical of Darkness from '12-'17 (including all BA, 9 bottles total) would fetch? I've always planned to have run through them with some friends, but at the same time I've wondered what would it be able to trade up for. Would I be able to snag a heavy hitter out there? KBBS/SR71? I'm guessing those are out of reach, but maybe a Handjee or Assassin+?

And as for Dark Lord, I presonally love the beer. But then again I will admit I am completely biased. I'm from Indiana and my first craft beer was Gumballhead. So Dark Lord is the Mecca. Haha

Seems the yeahs have increased. Which should point out that many do read this thread but not everyone that reads..posts

Since this thread is in the good spirit of helping others. As the nay.....care to give your reasons on why you don't believe this would get done? Beyond your gut feeling. It will be helpful to those who read this thread.

I would not believe that vertical would fetch those particular (kbbs/sr71)bottles. Because generally bottles that big only move for equally or bigger bottles. Or moved for profit.

Assassin possibly. But I just don't notice many trades for darkness at all. So would take the ever cliché " right set of eyes"

That would be a very far stretch. Reason being has already been stated. Also, Darkness is distributed throughout at least 3 states where as KBBS & SR-71 are both brewery only releases. For those who have either of those TG releases, they can easily trade for other equally rare bottles. Now, if someone really wants a darkness vertical then maybe it can close but I'm sorry to say that they would probably ask for more then just the vertical. Is it right? No but it is very typical.

Yeah, I agree those would probably be out of reach. How many VR units would that vertical be worth would you say?

Above VR by a decent +. EOC seems to require strong anchor and I haven't seen many quantity trades for it at all so don't think combos will do it usually
